    OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

    SCORE’s Finance and Operations Interns will provide financial, accounting, and operational support to the organization’s work and Tennessee’s efforts to improve student achievement. The Finance and Operations Interns will support SCORE’s efforts in 1) basic accounting functions like expense reports, vendor invoices, and reconciliations; 2) maintaining workflow and process documentation; and 3) general office administration support as needed. This position requires an organized individual with a strong eye for detail and accuracy. The Finance and Operations Interns will report to SCORE’s Director of Finance and/or Director of Operations.

    Tennessee has been making significant progress in advancing a bold education reform plan over the last decade and is now a leader in the nation in dramatically improving student achievement. Tennessee is among the fastest improving states for student achievement according to the Nation’s Report Card.

    While Tennessee has made significant gains, there is much still to do – in public K12 education, in college and career readiness, and in postsecondary completion. The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) plays a critical role in advancing student achievement, aligning K12 and postsecondary, and ensuring that all students can achieve career and life success. We work to monitor statewide progress in support of a prioritized agenda that drives collaboration across the state on policy while generating proof points and providing targeted support for implementation across the state.

    SCORE is an independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan organization founded by former US Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and is dedicated to the goal that that all students can achieve success in college, career, and life. SCORE supports student success in public schools across Tennessee by ensuring all schools and systems meet high expectations; preparing, recruiting, supporting, and retaining excellent teachers and leaders; and aligning K-12 and college with career and life success.

    SCORE is based at Vanderbilt University’s John Seigenthaler Center. This role will primarily report to the office with some flexibility for remote work. Applicants should be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. For more information on SCORE, please visit www.tnscore.org.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist with weekly expense reports and vendor invoice review.
    • Reconcile credit card transactions and review receipts.
    • Reconciling Bill.com clearing account, cash/bank accounts, and verifying transactions on QuickBooks Online.
    • Researching best practices for non-profit financial compliance.
    • Calculating mileage reimbursements for fellows and contractors.
    • Maintaining financial process workflows and process documentation.
    • Assis the formatting and editing of customized reports.
    • Other administrative duties as needed including: booking travel for leadership, submitting expense reports, and maintaining calendars.

    CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

    SCORE is looking for an organized and thorough undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for improving education in Tennessee. Other candidate requirements include:

    • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including telephone and videoconferencing skills
    • Problem-solver with a commitment to working creatively to find solutions
    • Strong command of and interest in technology and accounting software
