Job Title: Tennis Program Manager
Peninsula Community Center, a ministry of Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC), builds community by providing personal, healthy and meaningful connection through aquatics, fitness, tennis and community programming. PCC is a vibrant and forward-thinking church located in Redwood City, dedicated to serving our community and making a positive impact through our outreach programs including our Community Center. PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE
The Tennis Program Manager plays a vital role in building and enhancing PCC’s Tennis Program by leveraging sports and fitness to cultivate a strong sense of community through personal, healthy, and meaningful connections. This position supports program development by organizing and implementing a dynamic calendar of tennis and pickleball events, social gatherings, and engaging programming designed to create a vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming experience for all Center members.
PRINCIPLE WORKING RELATIONSHIP
This role reports to the Fitness/Tennis Director and works with program leaders, support teams, and external partners to implement Fitness and Tennis Programming and drives recruitment and retention measures within the tennis community through direct interaction with members, guests, and volunteers.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management
Design and implement a year-round schedule of tennis programs for juniors, adults, and seniors
Plan, coordinate, and promote events including tournaments, socials, leagues, and camps
Oversee program registrations, class rosters, and player communications
Hire, schedule, and supervise part-time coaches and staff
Monitor program budgets, goals, and profitability
Collaborate with marketing team to promote programs on social media, website, and email
Collect and act on member feedback to continually improve offerings
Assist in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of new tennis instructors and other staff as needed
Monitor and evaluate the performance of other pros on staff, providing feedback and guidance as necessary
Maintain inventory of tennis equipment, uniforms, and supplies
On-Court Coaching
Provide high-quality private lessons, semi-privates, and group clinics (up to 10 hours a week)
Work with players of all ages and levels, from beginner to advanced
Lead seasonal camps, team practices, and match play sessions
Serve as a positive role model and club ambassador on and off the court
Keep up with the latest tennis techniques, drills, and coaching strategies
PROFILE SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Creative thinker with attention to detail
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
USPTA or PTR Certified (required), , 4.0+ playing ability
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a tennis pro, and 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role
Demonstrated success in teaching players of all ages and levels
Experience with event coordination and management
Strong organizational and project management skills
Experience with scheduling software and tennis management tools (Mindbody)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 15-25 pounds frequently
Must be willing to work outdoors on the tennis court for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including sun, rain, heat, and other inclement weather.
DOJ background clearance required
Must adhere to and model PCC’s Safe Church policies
WORKWEEK
Between 28 - 40 hours/week
Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed for events and projects
Compensation:
This is a full-time hourly position averaging 30+ hours per week, with a blended pay structure:
Base Hourly Rate: $35–$70/hour for up to 28 hours per week
Commission-Based Pay: Base pay plus 45% commission for up to 12 hours per week for paid programming, including private and semi-private lessons, clinics, other as approved by PCC Fitness/Tennis Director..
