The qualified candidate will be working as part of the TECHNICAL SALES team in the Sales Department. Under minimal supervision, this role will serve as the estimator for technical projects and be involved in qualifying project opportunities, assessing project requirements, and producing quotations/proposals as required for these projects. This role will also serve as the account executive for key accounts providing customer service, tracking sales and project opportunities, and engaging in sales related events with clients. As part of the team, you will participate in shared project work and be responsible for individual project work, which will involve the development of technical proposals and cost estimates on projects, as well as, applying product knowledge, technology, and solution services as required by the project application and the clients’ needs.
THE QUALIFIED CANDIDATE WILL:
- provide quality customer service for all aspects of projects
- be involved with incoming sales and other related customer service calls
- follow up on all tasks to secure sales opportunities and to ensure completion of work
- work with technical resources to determine appropriate solutions for project needs
- derive system solutions for design-build project opportunities using modern technology and best practices
- develop Technical Proposals
- create Technical Approach documents, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS’s), Scope of Work documents, and complex estimates
- prepare presentations and occasionally lead those presentations
- develop and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements
- and more (as needed)
REQUIRED SKILLSET, AND KNOWLEDGEBASE INCLUDE:
- Engineering experience highly sought (including electrical engineering, control system engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent experience in our business field / industry vertical).
- Must be extremely proficient (possess strong knowledge and experience) in using software applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); knowledge in Publisher and Access databases highly sought and preferred.
- Experience with CAD aided software (AutoCAD) and MS Project is a plus.
- Knowledge of electrical theory desired.
- Knowledge of basic electronics desired.
- Experience with reading plan drawings and drawing schematics desired.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; expected to become involved in company related publishing, technical papers, and technical writing and peer review.
- High level of organizational skills a must.
- Exceptional customer relations and networking skills required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Evaluate project needs and assess scope of work requirements.
- Develop detailed scopes of work and comprehensive project approach, delivery, and execution methodology descriptions.
- Prepare customized time sensitive technical proposals with detailed estimates in a competitive environment.
- Interact with company departments for input/review of proposals and resource planning/scheduling, etc.
- Sell and apply company manufactured products and professional services as applicable.
- Interact with consulting engineers and clients regarding proposal requirements.
- Develop and maintain resource information on products, suppliers, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
- Establish and maintain business relationships (internal and external).
- Process product and professional services purchase orders and contracts.
- Fill out sales order entries and estimating reports.
- When requested, attend scheduled and unscheduled project meetings as a representative of Tesco.
- Track manufacturing process and update customers when needed.
- Prepare and track project change orders.
- Maintain customer relationships and attend outside functions with key accounts.
- Respond promptly to customer needs, solicit customer feedback to improve service, and maintain confidentiality with project information and customer sensitive data.
- Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
- Prioritize and plan work activities.
- Use time efficiently.
- Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and quality in work product.
THIS ROLE REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING:
- Proficiency with the use of computers.
- An aptitude for sales, related approaches, and sales strategies for proposal development.
- An understanding of estimating costs/pricing, services, and project deliverables.
- Take the lead on estimating and proposing on complex systems.
- Collaborate with the Sales Department team members for estimating/bidding and other sales activities.
- Continuously learn and be technically proficient with evolving technologies along with their applications, use, and integration needs.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Develop skill sets (soft and hard) for the art of Sales. Must take the lead in consultative selling.
- Continue to develop engineering-minded skillsets.
- Find opportunities to provide “value-engineering� on projects for both Tesco and the client.
THIS ROLE IS ANTICIPATED TO EVOLVE AND GROW FURTHER WITH:
- Becoming a technical resource as needed for the Sales Department team members for estimating/bidding, presenting, and collaborating on solutions.
- Being involved in project design assessment and development on design-build project opportunities.
- Participate and conduct Technical Presentations and Project Interviews (direct-to-owner projects, design-build projects, and other project opportunities).
- Involved in evaluating technologies; assessing how emerging technologies affect our industry, the solutions we provide, and the systems we integrate.
- Be involved with and collaborate in Vendor negotiations.
- Lead by example with performance, conduct, and leadership in all business and sales dealings.
