The Test Technician is a professional responsible for conducting tests and inspections on products, components, or systems to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. The desired candidate is a reliable, motivated self-starter with strong troubleshooting abilities in both mechanical and electrical systems. This role plays a critical part in evaluating equipment, ensuring quality output, and supporting accurate job quoting.
Conduct testing procedures on products, components, or systems according to established protocols and specifications.
Operate and maintain a wide range of testing equipment, including primary and secondary injection test sets, multimeters, DLRO, Hi-Pot testers, meggers, speed test sets, MAC testers, and more.
Record and document test results accurately, including measurements, observations, and any deviations from expected outcomes.
Identify and troubleshoot issues during the testing process, working to understand and resolve anomalies or discrepancies.
Evaluate products and assist in quoting jobs by identifying mechanical or electrical issues during evaluations.
Ensure that products meet quality standards by performing thorough inspections and tests, reporting any non-conformities to supervisors.
Interpret time characteristic curves and follow manufacturers' specifications to properly adjust breakers and bring them into compliance.
Understand and work from wiring diagrams and point-to-point schematics to properly connect and operate breakers (charge, close, trip), including recognizing anti-pump and seal-in contact functions.
Maneuver and position equipment safely and effectively using appropriate lifting and moving devices; must be free from physical restrictions that limit movement or lifting.
Use precision tools such as calipers and accurately transpose between decimals and fractions.
Input and save test data using computer systems, organizing it within appropriate folders.
Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to communicate testing results and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during testing procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Maintain detailed records of testing procedures, results, and any issues encountered during the testing process.
Contribute to the development and improvement of testing processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Familiarity with a variety of testing equipment, measurement tools, and procedures.
Ability to interpret technical specifications and time characteristic curves.
Skilled in troubleshooting both mechanical and electrical systems.
Good communication skills to effectively report results and collaborate with team members.
Must be physically capable of maneuvering, moving, and lifting breakers using proper equipment without physical restrictions.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and point-to-point layouts.
Competency in computer use to input and organize test data.
Awareness and adherence to safety regulations and guidelines in a laboratory or testing environment.
Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate and reliable testing results.
Ability to troubleshoot and address issues that may arise during testing procedures.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
Willingness to adapt to new testing methods, equipment, or procedures.
Resourcefulness in locating both current and obsolete technical information.
Ability to operate and interpret results from a range of test equipment and tools.
High school diploma or equivalent. Some positions may require technical coursework or an associate degree in a relevant field.
Previous experience in a testing or quality assurance role is beneficial but not always required, as some positions may offer on-the-job training.
