We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering student to join our team as a Test and Validation Mechanical Intern. This role will focus on the design, development, and implementation of mechanical fixtures used in the testing and validation of our products. The intern will gain hands-on experience working with a dynamic engineering team, contributing to the quality and reliability of our products. This position works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN. This is not a remote position. This is a paid internship.
This position reports to the Manager of Test and Validation.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in the design and development of mechanical fixtures for testing and validation processes. Utilize CAD software (e.g., Solidworks, AutoCAD) to create detailed designs and drawings.
• Participate in prototyping and fabrication of test fixtures. Work closely with machinists and fabricators to ensure accurate production of fixtures.
• Support the execution of test plans using developed fixtures. Collect and analyze test data and prepare reports summarizing test results.
• Assist in the maintenance and calibration of existing test fixtures to ensure their accuracy and reliability.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for fixture designs, quality, and manufacturing, to ensure fixtures meet all testing requirements.
• Identify opportunities for improving fixture designs and testing processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Skilled in material selection.
• Proficient with power tools.
• Experienced in 3D printing.
• Familiarity in automation, including Python and LabView – a highly desirable skill.
Qualifications & Competencies
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
• Solid understanding of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues related to fixture design and testing.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Experience with prototyping, machining, or fabrication is a plus.
