  • Responsibilities

    Our utility engineering and consulting client is looking for a full-time, remote Staking Technician willing to travel throughout Southern Alabama, Southern GA, and the FL Panhandle.

    This position reports into the distribution and transmission design group.  You'd design distribution (MV) electric utility facilities for electric cooperatives and municipal clients. Duties include specification of pole height/class, pole top assemblies, and guying assemblies. This position requires the ability to use or at least have experience in the use of computerized staking packages. Ensures engineering and construction standards are followed throughout the design, constructability of the design, and compliance with RUS and NESC specifications as necessary. Performs field inspections of construction projects to assure compliance and reports any discrepancies to supervisor. Responsible for preparing permits. Knowledge in property deeds, right-of-way easements and acquisition. Responsible for interfacing with landowners to obtain easements and/or permission for the construction of the electric facilities.

    Experience and Skills

    • Technical degree, engineering technology degree (civil or electrical) or business degree with (2) years’ experience or equivalent education and experience.
    • Ability to travel to project site and drive stakes to mark location of future poles and anchor placement.
    • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.
    • Think clearly and identify and solve problems in a thorough and logical manner.
    • Communicate clearly, persuasively, concisely, courteously and professionally with co-workers, members, and other business contacts.
    • Interpret verbal and written communications applicable to RUS specifications and structural layouts.
    • Math skills, to include plane and solid geometry and basic algebra; basic statistics and percents; and addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
    • Record field data accurately.
    • Recognize electric utility construction units.
