  • Responsibilities

    PURPOSE OF POSITION:

    To provide technical expertise and support in systematically updating, maintaining, and planning for the expansion of the distribution system, and to coordinate deployment of operational technologies.

    Communicate with Georgia Transmission Company and consultants on substation planning and design.

    Effectively communicate technical requirements and selection process to the potential vendors.

    Distribution System Engineering

    • Develop effective short- and long-range engineering work plans.
    • Performsystem engineering studies to complete planning reports.
    • Keep system configuration, bus data, and load growth data up to date.
    • Perform load flow andeffective capacitor studies.
    • Optimize the system to minimize line losses and outage time.
    • Perform short circuit and flicker calculations and assist staking engineers in sizing transformers.
    • Coordinate in performing system protection and ARC Flash system studies.
    • Assist in providing solutions to power quality issues.
    • Import GIS/CIS data into Engineering Analysis software.
    • Co-ordinate and resolve data issues with GIS/Mapping department.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining interfaces between the GIS, Engineering Analysis, and SCADA systems.
    • Provide technical assistance and support to Engineering personnel
    • Collaborate with staking engineers to design system as proposed in the construction work plan.
    • Design and Coordinate substation construction with GTC and others.
    • Assist in developing innovative ways to implement self-healing and automatic throw-over schemes

    System Operations

    • Gain and maintain knowledge of all SCADA, OMS, AMI and GIS functions.
    • Assist power control in writing and checking switching orders
    • Assist in maintainingaccurate SCADA one-line displays.
    • Organize and coordinate reports from SCADA, MDM, OMS and AMI systems for engineering and planning purposes.
    • Keep current on all new developments and enhancements produced developed by AMI, OMS, GIS and SCADA vendors
    • Continuously Monitor system and feeder loads and take proactive approach to avoid lengthy outages
    • Analyze after the fact reports from SCADA, AMI and OMS
    • Recommend the strategic placement of protective devices on the system to minimize the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI)

    System Analysis & Quality Control

    • Maintain thorough knowledge of system interfaces among various Electric Operation systems
    • Validate data synchronizationsamong the systems
    • Perform gap-analysis on various systems and assist in finding resolutions to bridge any gaps.
    • Analyze RUS 219 report with corresponding construction work plans

     

    EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology

    Minimum two years’ experience in design of an electrical distribution utility

    SKILLS:

    Ability to become proficient in operating distribution equipment for overhead and underground distribution systems.

    Ability to research materials, system protection and system automation equipment.

    Knowledge of RUS construction 740-C codes and National Electric Safety Codes

    Ability to develop short-range and long-range construction work plans

    Knowledge power distribution analysis software

    Ability to perform impact analysis of dependencies of integrated enterprise systems

    Ability to analyze and operate a GIS, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), OMS & AMI.

    Excellent communication skills.

    Ability to use ESRI products, MicroStation, and AutoCAD designing tools

    PREFERRED:

    EIT / FE Certification
