  • Responsibilities

    Provide clinical services such as individual and group counseling to youth and adult clients on-site and at community outreach sites.

    Main duties include:

    Has knowledge of providing services to resettlement and immigrant populations from a perspective that includes empowerment, power differentials and gender issues.

    Understands and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients.

    Understands and is empathetic towards all clients.

    Is skilled in crisis intervention counseling and case management with adults.

    Has knowledge of community resources for adults and children in crisis.

    Ability to lead, mentor, and supervise volunteers, interns and students.

    Exemplary skills in conflict resolution in a professional and ethical manner.

    Proven ability to work and cooperate with staff and volunteers in a professional and supportive manner.

    Develop and maintain professional contacts with organizations and agencies that provide service to the community.

    Provide coverage for the Interns and students as needed.

    Ability to track, retrieve and report the data for fundraising and grant writing purposes.

    Proven ability to meet deadlines.

    Provide referral information, counseling and emotional support in a non-judgmental, non-directive manner to clients.

    Report suspected and prior abuse/neglect to either Child Protective Services or Adult Protective Services when appropriate.

    Communicate special concerns about clients (both adults and children) to the Director of Clinical Services.

    Required Qualifications and Experience at this Level

    Bilingual in Spanish required.

    Master’s degree and licensure in clinical social work (LCSW), or LMSW with approved clinical supervisor (LCSW-S) preferred. Master of Social Work working toward licensure required.

    Minimum of 2 years of experience in providing counseling. Experience in counseling with refugee and immigrant population is strongly preferred.

    Experience in providing service to individuals from different cultures is strongly preferred.

    Minimum of 2 years of experience in providing individual and group counseling sessions.

    Experience in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other computer applications.

    Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

    Ability to drive and have reliable transportation and a valid Texas Driver’s License is required for travel to outreach sites in the Houston area.

    Flexibility in scheduling is needed for trainings, meetings, client or staffing needs, etc.
