    Position Title: Part Time ESL Instructor

    Reports to: Director of Education and Literacy

    Location: 7037 Capitol St 77011

    FLSA: Part Time

    Hours: 9AM to 12PM Monday-Thursday some additional hours required for training

    Description:

    The Part-time ESL Instructor will provide student-centered English as a Second Language instruction including listening, comprehension, pronunciation, reading and writing skills to students from a variety of cultures and educational backgrounds. Classes will be provided in the mornings.

    Duties:

    Prepare daily lesson plans that coincide with the Texas Standards Curriculum. Submit lesson plans to the Lead Instructor on a weekly basis

    Provide syllabus at the beginning of each 10-week session.

    Provide 12 hours per week of ESL classroom instruction to classes of 15 – 30 students at various levels of English proficiency

    Teach digital literacy, job readiness and job search skills to all levels of ESL Students

    Prepare or obtain, and administer evaluative tests to students to determine appropriate level of instruction for each student and to serve as a baseline for later evaluation. Prepare, obtain, and administer mid-course and post-course tests to determine student progress.

    Utilize digital curricula

    Assist students with setting and achieving short and long term SMART goals. Submit documentation of goal setting and follow up to the lead instructor throughout the instructional term

    Meet and document all state-mandated performance measures for ESL measurable skills gains and outcomes.

    Maintain student portfolios in accordance with Houston-Galveston Area Council.

    Maintain an average daily attendance of 15 students.

    Prepare and maintain correct attendance and performance documentation and performance reports including: daily student sign-in sheets, student outcome and assessment logs, and study plans.

    Submit all documentation, progress reports; lesson plans, success stories, student writing samples, documentation of goal setting and goals follow-up, to the lead instructor according to schedule

    Meet individually with students as needed during the program period.

    Provide discipline and guidelines for students in the classroom.

    Complete required professional development training in a timely fashion

    Attend teacher’s meetings

    Required Qualifications:

    Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.

    Must have a Bachelor’s degree (From the United States or the evaluated equivalent).

    Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

    Strong preference will be given to applicants with ESL teaching certification and/or teaching experience with adult students and students from different cultural backgrounds.

    Must have a commitment to humanitarian issues, particularly as related to refugees, and foster a welcoming community.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    The work is primarily performed in an office/indoor setting with moderate noise level. This job occasionally requires the employee to stand; walk; sit; use hands; climb stairs; reach overhead balance; stoop; kneel; read; talk or hear. The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
