    Job Description

    The National Alliance for Eating Disorders is seeking energetic and passionate ADVOCACY INTERNS for the 2022 Spring School Semester. These are part-time, unpaid internships providing flexible hours and optional academic credit. Interns will report to the Operations Manager.

    Advocacy Interns will research and compile contact information for federal and local district offices of the United States Senate. Interns will work on outreach, grant, and other related projects. Advocacy Interns can expect to regularly contact elected official offices via phone and email to provide information about eating disorders and The Alliance’s services.

    The Alliance strives to make its internships enriching and all-encompassing. Interns can expect to become well-versed in areas beyond advocacy, specifically fields pertaining to mental health and healthcare, all while getting a glimpse into the general management of a non-profit organization.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Making phone calls following a script and/or sending emails
    • Providing information on eating disorders and The Alliance to Senators’ offices, abiding by non-partisan and other important guidelines
    • Submitting update reports and sending emails in a timely fashion
    • Working on eating disorder related legislation
    • Supporting staff in organizational projects
    • Working collaboratively with the other Advocacy Intern(s)
    • Partaking in individual and group meetings on a weekly basis
    • Writing a blog post on a topic you are interested in within the eating disorder field
    • Attending virtual Alliance-hosted mental health information sessions and trainings
    • Attending at least three Alliance-hosted support groups and submitting write-ups on each
    • Presenting a team lunch and learn research project to staff

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    • SPECIFICS: Unpaid remote internship offering academic credit hours (optional)
    • TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum of 10 hours per week
    • INTERNSHIP DURATION: Begins the week of January 10th and ends the week of May 23rd
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in any major, but concentrations in Business, Human Resources, or Psychology are preferred
    • Interests in eating disorders awareness and/or non-profit organizations
    • Excellent reading, writing, editing, and communication skills
    • Self-motivated and able to exhibit a professional demeanor in the office environment, over Zoom, and over the phone
    • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
    • Technical computer skills; competencies in Microsoft Word, Google Drive, Presentation applications (Google Slides, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Strong capability to work productively, both alone and in groups
    • Comfortable working alone in a remote environment

    *NOTE REMOTE AND/OR ON-SITE POSITION AVAILABLE. ON-SITE POSITIONS REQUIRE THE INTERN(S) TO BE FULLY VACCINATED PRIOR TO THE START DATE. 

    Additional Information

    The application deadline is November 26th. The first and second interviews will be scheduled from November 29th through December 10th. Offer letters and onboarding information will be sent the week of December 13th.
