  • Responsibilities

    SUMMARY:   Responsible for the functional areas for Human Resources at The Art Institute of Houston & The Art Institute of Austin and The Art Institute of San Antonio.  This may include one or more of the following areas: payroll processing, data entry, employee relations & engagement, performance management, training & development, benefits communication. Incumbent must assure that The Arts Institutes International philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

    KEY JOB ELEMENTS: 

    • Process payroll: which includes entering of Adjunct teaching hours and approved additional pay amounts for FT and Adjunct faculty into the time keeping system.  Assists in the follow-up and auditing of payroll data entry across all Art Institute campuses.
    • Assist hiring managers with new hire orientation, answer employee questions relating to various payroll, benefits and HR questions.
    • Ensure compliance with corporate policies in pay and benefits.
    • Assist with the recruitment of candidates to fill campus vacancies and corporate opportunities as needed.  This includes requesting job requisitions, review of incoming resumes and applications, prescreening as required, scheduling interviews and teaching demonstrations, collecting feedback and providing to hiring manager.   
    • Lead projects such as employee training programs, annual benefits enrollment, employee recognition, etc. as needed. 
    • Work with managers on employee performance, documenting issues, delivering performance improvement plans and completing annual evaluations.
    •  Other duties as assigned.

    REPORTS TO:  President, dotted line to Senior Vice President – Human Resources & Senior Director – HR Operations

    INTERACTS WITH:  All levels of the organization and with the corporate office human resource and payroll staff

    JOB REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):

     Knowledge:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or similar required.
    2. 2-4 years of previous experience in Human Resources, preferably in a Human Resources Coordinator / Assistant role.
    3. Previous payroll/detail oriented administrative experience.

     Skills:

    1. Solid written and verbal communication skills.
    2. Strong Interpersonal skills with both faculty and staff populations.
    3. Superior organization, prioritization and self-motivation skills.
    4. Strong computer literacy skills with the MS Office suite as well as HRIS database applications helpful, although not required.

     Abilities:

    1. Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
    2. Ability to listen to customers (e.g. staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
    3. Ability to work without close supervision and set one’s own priorities.
    4. Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
