  • Responsibilities

    The Program Chair is responsible for leading curriculum development, technology / software needs, oversight / subject matter expertise to the program.  This position will be responsible for ensuring effective, quality programs that result in highly qualified graduates with employable skill sets in the latest creative art related technology. In addition, the Chair will identify needed technology enhancements that align with cutting edge curriculum and outcomes.  

    The Chair will also build and maintain industry support through involvement with industry practitioners, thought leaders, employers and external organizations. Specific aspects of this position include curriculum, equipment, facilities, instructional development, retention, student learning outcomes assessment and student graduation rates.

    KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

    1. Develop, manage and implement consistent programs in across The Arts Institutes system.

    2. System Responsibilities:

      1. Curriculum Development – work with Deans of Academic Affairs, full-time faculty and Industry Professionals to research, develop and implement industry relevant curriculum with all necessary supporting documents required for State and Regional Accreditation Agencies.
      2. Program Review - Coordinate and conduct systematic program review at minimum every 5 (five) years for all programs including relevancy / currency of the programs, student achievement outcomes, etc.
      3. Chair Communication - Conduct system level monthly calls with Deans, Program Coordinator and FT Faculty to discuss best practices, curriculum issues, training needs and software issues impacting the program.
      4. Faculty Training – Determine faculty training needs based upon assessment of programmatic outcomes and feedback from Industry Professionals resulting in identification of quality, cost effective methods for training delivery.
      5. Committee Participation: 
        1. Serve on system level Textbook Committee to determine selection of textbooks for program. 
        2. Serve on System level Technology Committee to determine software needs for effective program delivery. 
        3. Serve on system level Curriculum Committee. 
        4. Serve on system level Council of Deans to represent the program.
    3. Other duties as assigned by President or Dean of Academic Affairs.

     REPORTS TO:   Dean of Academic Affairs

    SUPERVISES:    Program Coordinator

    INTERACTS WITH: Campus President, Dean of Academic Affairs, Institutional Effectiveness, faculty, students, alumni 

    JOB REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES): 

    1. Knowledge

      1. Graduate degree in a Design field such as Interior Design, Graphic Design, Communication Design, Web Design, etc. Terminal degree preferred. 
      2. Minimum of 10 years of successful higher education leadership experience, prior experience as a Campus Program Chair/ full time faculty member.
      3. Extensive national network of contacts within the industry.
      4. Demonstrated knowledge of and contacts within the industry to assist in establishing system wide relationships to enhance program curriculum, campus technology and student/program outcomes.

       

    2. Skills

      1. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
      2. Strong interpersonal skills with faculty and students.
      3. Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
      4. Strong computer literacy skills with the Microsoft Office Suite.
    3. Abilities

      1. Ability to conceive and market adult educational programs consistent with the Ai Brand.
      2. Ability to listen to customers (e.g. staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
      3. Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities.
      4. Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
