    How your role fits into Boldt:

    The Lean Project Development Manager works closely with Subject Matter Experts and project leaders to:

    • Assess the effectiveness of lean and standard process implementation on specific projects or within business functions;
    • Develop and document strategies, processes and performance metrics to achieve targeted business objectives;
    • Lead training and development, process implementation and knowledge sharing to support consistent project and business performance within the operating group.

    This role is designed for individuals who can effectively promote a learning culture and provide expertise in accountability and continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to grow as a leader and to work in multiple subject areas of Boldt.

    • Cultivate a sense of ownership and accountability amongst project teams.
    • Supervise and provide an on-site lean instruction and development program to build the culture and delivery capabilities of project personnel.
    • Coach additional on-site trainers or facilitators in collaboration with the project or office leadership.
    • Assist in developing a training and employee development program for Western Operations.

     

    FIELD LEAN LEADERSHIP:

    Coordinate on-site Lean Innovation activities to develop a ‘Lean project culture’ through:

    • Hands-on process improvement through working with field superintendents on task optimization
    • Lead focused improvement initiatives for field staff using plan-do-check-act methodology
    • Organize team building and respectful workplace activities at the project and craft level
    • Train foremen and craft on the principles of flow and waste identification
    • Support implementation of daily and weekly visual performance management for the project, including Safety, Quality, Productivity, Schedule and Equipment metrics.
    • Bring technological solutions to our field staff to improve ability to measure & orchestrate work
    • Use Lean methodology to optimize the crew size and sequence of various construction activities
    • Act as a Lean Innovation liaison to other projects, operating groups and business services
    • Build business cases to support investment in new ways of working on projects
    • Update Standard Work Instructions based on proven methodologies discovered in the field, including photos, video and data collection where improvements are being performed

     

    PROCESS:

    • Work with teams to develop new processes or clarify existing processes
    • Assist project teams in documenting their approach to work to promote a common understanding, make problems visible and collaborate to develop solutions.
    • Assist teams in identifying leading performance indicators and methods to visibly track performance relative to goals.
    • Help to achieve measurable improvements in core business and building processes by reducing cost, waste, defects, and safety risks.
    • Study & quantify various aspects of construction process.
    • Participate in Gemba Walks and field observations with project teams to help them see, document and analyze current state operations to identify challenges, obstacles or problems and promote development of improvement plans.
    • Remain current in use of lean tools and process developed by The Boldt Company and by leading resources in innovative project delivery including LEI, LCI, and selected professional organizations and universities.
    • Document, review and update standard work to provide a flexible and continuously improving structure to Western Operations’ projects.

     

    KNOWLEDGE SHARING:

    • Integrate with corporate Performance and Innovation Resource group and employees in other divisions with similar roles dedicated to innovation and process and performance improvement to share standard methodologies.

    Required Experience

    What we expect from you:

    Educational and experience requirements include: 10+ years of broad Construction business related experience, 7+ years of lean experience, demonstrated positive energy to promote employee engagement and drive results, and demonstrated passion to motivate change and challenge status quo. Working knowledge of lean principles, rules, systems and tools (VSM, Kaizen, A3's, TWI, Standard Work, etc.) Change management and project management experience with a record of implementation results. Ability to work with all levels of the organization, influence leaders to change / adopt change, build trust and credibility quickly. Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information. Collaboration and partnership skills.

    Physical requirements and working conditions:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to walk and reach with hands. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee frequently uses computer keyboard, regularly travels (as vehicle driver and as passenger on various modes of transportation), and occasionally performs work on-site at construction work sites. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee views computer monitor frequently.
