    The Boldt Company is seeking a Senior Cost Estimator at its San Francisco, California office.

    JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the coordination and oversight of internal and external estimating resources.  Develop a project from first estimate to subcontract formalization.  Prepare bid documents for internal and external clients.  Support all estimating and target value design functions for projects, including establishing reporting formats, assignment of areas of estimating responsibility, compiling estimates, preparation and oversight of project estimates.  Promote the collaborative effort required for the success of the target value design process with the Owner, Designer, Engineering, and Construction Partners.  Participate in the presentation of project estimates and budgets to project Owners and other stakeholders.  Prepare and send out bid documents and instructions to Bidders to successfully procure and buy out projects for smooth transition and turnover to project managers and ensure subcontractors are prequalified prior to bidding and contracting with Boldt.  Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.  Ensure proper documentation of project scope.  Lead the bidding process, including bid solicitation, bidders’ communications, proposal evaluations, bid tally sheet preparation, and bid analysis.  Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.  Perform conceptual estimates to ensure proper documentation of project scope.  Assist project management and procurement personnel during bid solicitation and evaluation.  Perform comparisons of scope, quantities, and cost data between projects.  Assist in the preparation of studies for proposed materials and method solutions, generate recommendations and cost estimates as required.  Assist in Value Engineering efforts.  Assist in the design to budget approach in preconstruction.  Work with design and project management teams to find alternative solutions to budget challenges, analyze maintenance and lifecycle costs to achieve a value-added solution for the client.  Assist project managers and financial managers in the continuous assessment of project risks and opportunities and how they relate to overall project cost.  Consolidate all risk and opportunities and integrate to the overall project cost, including assisting project and financial managers in their review of monthly trade partner cost reports and labor reports, and identify variances from the original estimate.  Assist in the development and implementation of estimating and cost modeling with designers, architects, and engineers using a model-based process for projects that are designed from a model.  Develop and maintain professional relationships and the highest ethical standards with clients and other customers.  Communicate with customers while maintaining the company’s confidential and proprietary information.  Seek input and feedback from both external and internal customers. 

    Required Skills

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field of study and five (5) years of experience in an Estimator role.  

    Required Experience

    The position requires five (5) years of experience with the following skills: experience in the construction industry; experience presenting and estimating information to owners and partners; experience using Target Value Design, Value Engineering, Choosing by Advantages, and other Lean Construction techniques to meet owner budget requirements; experience in a design build or integrated project delivery contract structure; and experience in multiple markets, including healthcare (OSHPD), higher education, and commercial. Experience may be gained concurrently. Foreign degree equivalent accepted. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, or training.
