ESCS STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Student Support Specialist (SSS) works closely with the teachers and parents in observing the children’s age appropriate development throughout their tenure at ESCS. The SSS assists the students, parents, and teachers by gathering information about the individual student’s abilities, behaviors, and achievements, so that appropriate decisions about educational instruction can be made. The instrumental role of the director is to help each child capitalize on their individual strengths and reach higher levels of development.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Supports the philosophy and teachings of Catholic education
- Bachelor’s degree in education and/or special education
- 5 years teaching experience
Preferred:
- Current Florida ESE Certification or acquired within 3 years
- Master’s degree in special education
STUDENT SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the teachings and philosophy of Catholic education
- Work cooperatively with the guidance counselor and student support teacher
- Serve as a resource to students, parents and teachers
- Coordinate and facilitate parent-teacher conferences as needed
- Coordinate/schedule Federal/Title/County Programs: Speech, Language, and ESE Services. Attend service plan meetings.
- Lead Student Support Team with guidance counselor and assist with Strategic Intervention Team (SIT)
- Assist in tracking individual student performance and in developing student profiles
- Review progress reports and report cards
- Provide small group or individual instruction for skill reinforcement/enrichment/learning strategies
- Push into classroom to assist teachers in meeting individual learning needs
- Assist with identifications of students with special learning needs
- Assist parents with interpretation of educational assessments
- Work with teachers and parents in developing and implementing student support plans
- Communicate student performance and needs with administration, teachers, and parents
- Work with guidance counselor, teachers, and administration with student placement and class rosters
- Hallway/dismissal duty when available
- Attend faculty meetings
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Level 2 background screening.
