POSITION: Elementary Guide at Wildwood, Opelika, AL

About Wildwood: Wildwood is a non-profit, parent-driven effort to create an alternative learning community, space and program that fosters curiosity, creativity, wonder, critical thinking, autonomy, flexibility, and a deep rooted love of learning that cultivates each child’s passion and unique abilities. We are a hybrid homeschool/microschool attending school 2 days a week and homeschool on the other days. Our goal is to preserve each child’s natural curiosity and love of learning through play based learning, the freedom to make choices, individualized and self paced learning, interest based emergent curriculum, immersion into the outdoors, socratic teaching, and creativity. Our elementary studio currently consists of 10 learners ranging in ages from 6-10.

This is a part time position roughly 20 hours per week.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Experience managing mixed aged groups of young people; experience planning and implementing exploratory centers, project options, and invitations to play; a passion for alternative education opportunities such as Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia; excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills; entrepreneurial thinker; reader and researcher; open minded and ready to learn alongside the learners; calm and patient with kids and a trust and respect for their ability to learn and grow without heavy adult intervention; kind-hearted; independent worker; Montessori experience or indirect teaching experience preferred, but not required.
