Job Description Guides and oversees all functions of the store. The General Manager should work closely with the owner to set goals, identify plans to attain goals, direct employees, perform customer service, and take care of the daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities listed under Job Responsibilities. The General Manager should be capable of completing any job or task assigned to any employee. In order to be a good leader, you need to be able to offer guidance, and you can’t offer guidance if you can’t do the task yourself. You also cannot instill a sense of leadership and respect if you’re asking your employees to do things you either wouldn’t or couldn’t do.
Job Responsibilities Retail
Work with distributors to develop sales and promotions
Complete weekly/monthly ordering of retail product
Set in-stock minimums and a formula for replenishing depleted stock.
As new products are introduced to the store, the GM needs to work with the Retail Manager to enter the items in Pet Exec’s inventory and adhere to any mark-up guidelines set by the owner.
Upon receiving each order, the GM and Retail Manager are responsible for changing the on- hand quantity in inventory as well as double-checking the distributor, and the store’s paid for price.
Understand pet food and retail trends- visit competitors and implement new store displays
Research products and exhibit expert knowledge of TDS product
Introduction of new retail products or discontinue difficult to move brands
Comprehension of best and worst sellers
Other Inventory
Work with the owner to establish weekly/monthly budgets for store supplies
Keep the store stocked with any necessary office supplies.
Set a minimum on-hand number for store cleaning supplies. Place weekly orders through the appropriate vendor.
Building Maintenance
GM should have a list of contractors or handymen that has been approved by the owner to call when things break. Because the safety of the dogs and the employees often relies on the functioning of the building and all the tools within it, any sort of needed repair should be dealt with swiftly but with owner approval.
In addition to paying the utility bills, if there is some sort of problem with any service, the GM should take the lead on contacting the appropriate provider and scheduling a service visit if applicable.
Financial
Work closely with the owner to analyze expenses and monthly finances and ensure that budgets are being adhered to (payroll, ordering, supplies)
Exhibit a thorough understanding of financial goals and trends
Understand and meet monthly sales goals
Employee Management
Determine payroll policy with owner
Submit biweekly payroll in a timely manner
Post schedules for all employees (except for groomers) at least biweekly
Handle all requests for days off or shift switches
Track PTO
Ensure store is staffed appropriately.
Determine and enforce employee incentive/reward program to help contribute to a culture of positivity and encouragement
If an employee fails to meet TDS standards, conduct a constructive interview or termination.
If the employee exceeds TDS expectations, reinforce and incentivize continued performance
Annual performance reviews for all employees
Set individual staff goals and provide support and accountability.
Train new employees and/or implement training program to do so.
Resolve employee conflicts swiftly and appropriately
Dog Care
Ensure all staff are upholding TDS behavioral and operational standards
Confirm medication administration daily
Confirm and enter into Petexec daily food consumption
Assist with any necessary first aid
Complete incident reports
Determine appropriate daycare rooms
Follow low-stress boarding guidelines
Communicate any behavioral changes to owners
Supervising and directing safe and positive play
Maintaining a clean and healthy environment for guests
Ensuring guests and their owners feel comfortable and are receiving the level of service they’ve come to expect from The Dog Stop
Customer Service and FOH
Make customer appointments, give tours, explain and upsell services
Maintain a positive, upbeat attitude with customers at all times
Engage with customers who have complaints and find reasonable solutions to problems.
Stay UTD of all Petexec updates
Ensure products and services are current and accurate in the system
Marketing
Respond to any FB, Instagram, or app messages from customers
Work with the social media team to post daily on all social media platforms
Construct and send monthly email updates with owner approval
Discover and attend community events representing TDS
