    MARKETING DIRECTOR

    Summary & Reports to: Reporting to the CAO, the Marketing Director plays a critical functional leadership role as part of The Edge Fitness Clubs leadership team. The Marketing Director is accountable for leading and managing the strategic development and execution of integrated marketing and demand creation plans across all Edge Club locations. The Marketing Director is a people-oriented leader who effectively coaches, manages and motivates the extended marketing team.

    Duties & Responsibilities/Essential functions:

    Marketing Strategy:

    Develops corporate marketing and execution strategies to support core business functions Leads strategy and proactive response to changing local conditions

    Accountable for strategic management, coordination and implementation of integrated annual, quarterly and monthly marketing planning, business analytics, and creative direction

    Coordinates and leads the day-to-day management of the extended marketing team, including internal marketing team members, external agencies, consultants and/or contractors

    Builds a well-rounded team, establishes metrics and prioritization processes and effectively manages internal and external relationships

    Strives to continuously improve the effectiveness of marketing plans and programs

    Partners closely with Sales, Club Management and The Edge leadership team to develop internal and external demand creation strategies and plans

    Tracks and reports on performance metrics associated with local promotions and marketing campaigns

    Partners with outside vendors and/or internal leadership team members to execute the planning, creative ideation and execution of original marketing programs

    Develops and maintains brand and style guides which detail the proper use of all brand trademarks and logos. Ensures consistency of differentiation in visuals and copy across all media. Provides direction in achieving compliance and uniformity of all company standards.

    Ensures all national marketing programs and processes are communicated and effectively and consistently administered

    Financial Performance:

    Develops and executes plans to ensure improvements in marketing spending effectiveness (i.e. cost per acquisition, digital spending productivity, and improved mix of spending, etc.).

    Builds the organization’s knowledge of and focus on key effectiveness metrics

    Leads development of quarterly, and monthly corporate and local market/club budgets and plans

    Establishes action plans and daily or weekly reporting processes to ensure visibility and delivery of results

    Partners closely with the VP of Sales and EDGE operating team to ensure delivery of new membership goals

    Recruitment & Training:

    Partners with HR to provide leadership of the recruiting and selection process for new Marketing staff. Recruits and selects Marketing staff and maintains an active talent pipeline

    Oversees training and orientation of marketing staff in partnership with training team

    People & Relationship Management:

    Develops credible, effective working relationships with employees, contractors, vendors and the community to support local and national priorities and markets

    Managerial oversight for people management decisions (i.e. hiring, termination, administration of performance management and corrective action)

    Leads weekly marketing meetings ensuring effective communication, planning, coordination and alignment

    Creates a positive and healthy workplace environment that provides opportunities for challenge and advancement. Promotes a corporate culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

    Club Operations:

    As a member of the corporate club operations leadership team, develop an in-depth understanding of club operations and key functions across all departments with a view to improving processes and services while driving total club revenue and profitability.

    Key Qualifications:

    A University degree or equivalent experience is required. Related degree or diploma in Marketing and/or Communications is an asset.

    5+ years related Marketing and Communications experience with a demonstrated ability to translate business objectives into marketing strategies and tactics. Marketing and demand creation experience is required. Experience in service oriented business and direct marketing is preferred.

    2+ years of website, landing pages, digital direct marketing, media and social media experience.

    3+ years of leadership and people management experience including proven success in leading, coaching and motivating individuals and teams to achieve goals and objectives.

    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of local market conditions – clubs, competition, consumer, local opportunities

    Related industry experience required (i.e. retail, hospitality, leisure, fitness, etc.) and a passion for fitness

    Applies excellent project management skills/tools to manage multiple, complex, varying, sometimes competing Marketing projects

    Strategic & creative business mindset

    Demonstrated communication and influencing skills – ability to sell marketing ideas and plans to internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes

    High-energy individual who is able to work semi-autonomously, comfortable with ambiguity and embraces change

    Strong decision-making and problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and recommend solutions

    Strong, interpersonal and relationship-building skills

    Strong MS Office software skills with an ability to adapt learning to incorporate new technologies

    Strong project management skills and customer service skills

    Effective organizational and time management skills. Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks, plan and establish priorities to meet deadlines

    Ability to act with tact, diplomacy and professionalism

    Ability to work flexible hours, as required

    Ability to work with a sense of urgency and demonstrates a “roll up the sleeves” mentality

    Education & Experience: (required & preferred)

    Three years inspection experience

    Three years superintendent experience

    Related industry experience preferred (i.e. retail, hospitality, leisure, fitness, etc.)

    Physical Demands:

    This job operates in the corporate office and the health club environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see and hear. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. This position will require sitting at a desk and being on your feet behind the front desk.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in the community, the corporate office and the health club environment. This position routinely deals with community members, club employees, club members and vendors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. This is a high paced environment.

    Travel:

    This position requires occasional travel for vendor meetings and grand openings.

    Position type and expected hours of work:

    This is a full time, exempt position with general hours of work Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm (40 hours), however, this position frequently requires long hours and some night/overnight or weekend work.
