    Job Description

    Job Summary:

    Prepare cost estimates for mechanical (structural steel, equipment setting and piping) for industrial construction projects and services to aid management in bidding work.  A large part of this job involves and requires working with engineered drawings and specifications to prepare estimates for all project costs including labor, material, construction equipment and subcontracted work.

    Required Skills

     

    • Proficient in structural steel, equipment setting, pipe fabrication and pipe installation takeoffs and pricing
    • Detail oriented
    • Self-motivated
    • Thorough understanding of project estimating and construction processes and procedures
    • Proficient in math, writing and communication skills
    • Comfortable speaking and making presentations to management and clients
    • Proficient in use of computer with focus on Excel and Word software
    • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in industrial construction with hands-on field experience and ability to demonstrate familiarity with materials, equipment and work disciplines associated with industrial construction

    Required Experience

     

    • Accurately interpret and apply information from work orders, job orders, specification and drawings recognizing basic terms and symbols for construction estimates
    • Ensure that the estimate and proposal is issued as a complete package
    • Investigate project site and make site visit prior to bid to identify project location, access issues, haul routes, staging/waste areas and any other potential problems that could be associated with work
    • Analyze drawings, specifications and other documentation to prepare labor, materials, equipment and scheduled time estimates
    • Help prepare bid packages for issuing to subcontractors to bid
    • Develop complete cost estimates for assigned projects
    • Review Subcontracted work bids for competitive pricing and complete scope of work
    • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments and field supervision to help resolve issues and formulate estimates
    • Report any risks and other special considerations for project cost and profit evaluations
    • Confer with engineers, Owners, subcontractors/other contractors as involved on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
    • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work
    • Help in maintaining estimate records for data and historical retention
