    Job Summary:

    To provide peer support services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to persons with mental illness and /or substance abuse problems. Service provision will focus on working with clients to enhance their recovery. Service is provided to individuals or groups.

    Specific Duties:

    • To provide individual, ongoing guidance, coaching, and support.
    • To provide training in the use of personal and community resources.
    • Assist the client in developing formal and informal community support.
    • Assist the client in increasing the social support networks of relatives or other support systems.
    • To offer encouragement in times of crisis.
    • To advocate on behalf of clients with behavioral health problems to protect the client’s recovery plan. Case conferences and individual and Group Supervision.
    • To attend Agency staff meetings.
    • To observe all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment both internally and dealing with external agencies and/or individuals.
    • To be responsible for understanding client’s rights policy and procedures.
    • To participate in State mandated monthly training.
    • To always maintain professional standards. To observe the guidelines established within the employee handbook.
    • To perform other related duties as assigned.

    Employment Qualifications:

    • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Experience: At least 1 year of being clean and sober.
    • Past or present consumers of mental health or substance abuse services with a history of managing one's own illness.
    • Awareness of the importance of recovery in living with mental illness or addictions problem.
    • Experience working directly with people in the service-orientated field is beneficial. Actively attending recovery meetings or other self-help groups.
    • The ability to interact with various types of people.
    • A sound understanding of mental health and/or substance abuse problems and treatments.
    • Personal traits which include patience, tolerance, caring, maturity, and understanding.
    • Requirement: Peer Support Specialist Certification is required.
    • Valid drivers license
    • Reliable transportation and auto insurance.
