    The Henry Ford's Simmons Internship Program is designed for current graduate students pursuing careers in museums, historical agencies, conservation labs, or related fields. This internship provides participants with a great opportunity to gain in-depth work experience in a major American history museum. Simmons interns are awarded stipends for a minimum 12-week full-time internship. Starting and ending dates for individual internships are negotiable. The Simmons Internship Program is funded by the Vera W. and Walter E. Simmons Endowment Fund.

    Contemporary Trade Catalog Intern

    This project aims to process and catalog the contemporary trade catalogs acquired by The Henry Ford in 2022. The Henry Ford already processes a large collection of trade catalogs, and this recent acquisition will be processed, cataloged, and interfiled with the same standards of the existing collection.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Create MARC records for approximately 1000 trade catalogs. This will include a combination of copy cataloging and original cataloging work.
    • Process trade catalogs.
    • Interfile and shift trade catalogs as needed.
    • Create a capstone presentation of completed work.

    Required qualifications:

    • Enrollment in a graduate program for American History, Information Studies, Museum Studies, or related field.
    • Familiarity with MARC records .

    Desired qualifications (optional):

    • Familiarity with OCLC Connxion, Ex Libris Alma and Primo.

    Stipend and Terms of Internship
    Simmons interns are awarded stipends for a minimum 12-week full time internship. Starting and ending dates for individual internships are negotiable. The Simmons Internship Program is funded by the Vera W. and Walter E. Simmons Endowment Fund.

    Application Process
    Three internship opportunities are available for Summer 2024. Applications should include:

    • A letter of application, stating how your graduate studies, work, and/or volunteer experience and personal interests qualify you for the specific project
    • Resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
    • Two references

    Students may apply for more than one internship project but must submit a unique letter of application for each.
