The Diversity and Inclusion Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates* who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward. FOR WINTER 2023, INTERNSHIPS WILL LAST 15 WEEKS, PROJECTED TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 23 AND CONCLUDE ON MAY 5. ALL INTERNSHIPS ARE PAID OPPORTUNITIES.

*Candidates who have a disability, identify as Black, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Arab, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, Latino/a/x, LGBTQIA+, or who exist at the intersection of these identities are encouraged to apply. All submitted applications will be considered.

    HOW WILL WE WORK TOGETHER?

The DIGITAL LEARNING ENGAGEMENT INTERN can expect our work together to be hybrid, with most workdays being remote. There will be some predetermined events and projects that will require the intern to work in-person on The Henry Ford's campus in Dearborn, MI.

Working alongside the Senior Manager of Learning Services & On-site Programs, you'll gain experience planning, producing, and authoring at least two digital learning engagement prototypes for students: a mini virtual field trip for preschoolers and a Kahoot! game-based online learning activity. This is a new frontier for our Learning and Engagement team, and we look forward to having someone who is comfortable and confident in trying new things, particularly with technology. You'll also learn about the role a learning & engagement department plays in a museum by participating in team meetings and on-site youth and family hands-on programs.

    As our intern you will:

    • Observe and participate in Tinkering for Tots on-site youth and family program to inform the development of the mini virtual field trip that you'll create.
    • Collaborate with Learning & Engagement team leads to identify topics of focus, determine a target audience, and set relevant learning objectives.
    • Research artifacts and stories from the collections using The Henry Ford's online resources and digital collections.
    • Plan and produce video footage to be used in the mini virtual field trip using the Learning & Engagement team's recording devices and editing software.
    • Design and author a game-based online learning activity using the Kahoot! platform.
    • Support other Learning & Engagement initiatives as time allows. These programs may include Detroit Public Schools Community District Cultural Passport field trips and Invention Convention Michigan.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU HAVE?

    • An interest in and desire to learn more about current education trends, how museums play a role in those trends
    • An interest in history, the arts, invention, and/or engineering
    • Comfort and confidence with technology to record video, make simple video edits (iMovie, Adobe Premiere), and design slide shows (Microsoft PowerPoint, Keynote)
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

    • Organizational skills
