    The Henry Ford's Simmons Internship Program is designed for current graduate students pursuing careers in museums, historical agencies, conservation labs, or related fields. This internship provides participants with a great opportunity to gain in-depth work experience in a major American history museum. Simmons interns are awarded stipends for a minimum 12-week full-time internship. Starting and ending dates for individual internships are negotiable. The Simmons Internship Program is funded by the Vera W. and Walter E. Simmons Endowment Fund.

    ****Edible Education Collections Development Intern ********

    The selected candidate will assess existing collecting plans and historical resources to create a collections development plan that will guide acquisitions relevant to the Edible Education initiative at The Henry Ford. The purpose of Edible Education is to inspire people to care about the food that sustains us and to think and act deeply about equitable food access, regenerative agriculture, and environmental stewardship.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • The successful applicant will assess collections already supportive of the Edible Education initiative, review other relevant collections, compile a statement of significance about existing THF collections and complete a collection development plan to grow Edible Education historical resources.
    • To accomplish this, the intern will review existing collections, collecting plans and significance statements to identify topics not currently addressed in these plans. The work will continue with identification of current debates relevant to Edible Education at THF, and completion of an Edible Education collections development plan.

    Required qualifications:

    • Enrollment in a graduate program for American History, Information Studies, Museum Studies, or related field.
    • Interest in edible education including historical context and current issues.
    • Demonstrated writing skills.
    • Flexibility.

    Stipend and Terms of Internship
    Simmons interns are awarded stipends for a minimum 12-week full time internship. Starting and ending dates for individual internships are negotiable. The Simmons Internship Program is funded by the Vera W. and Walter E. Simmons Endowment Fund.

    Application Process
    Three internship opportunities are available for Summer 2024. Applications should include:

    • A letter of application, stating how your graduate studies, work, and/or volunteer experience and personal interests qualify you for the specific project.
    • Resume or curriculum vitae (CV).
    • Two references.

    Students may apply for more than one internship project but must submit a unique letter of application for each.
