Financial Data Analyst - Consumer Products Company

An innovative and rapidly growing consumer products company is seeking a Financial Data Analyst to assist on their corporate finance and data analytics team. The Financial Data Analyst will play a dual role with analyzing both finance and business operations and work directly with the VP of Finance and Data Analytics Manager on key projects and initiatives to streamline data analysis to make impactful finance and strategy decisions.

Please note: Local candidates to the Southern California area preferred. This is not a remote opportunity. 

Responsibilities

• Develop and produce reports on financial and operational data, using your judgement to determine the right key performance indicators (KPIs), the most effective formatting, and the best practices to ensure accuracy
• Work with key stakeholders to review monthly performance by department, helping to identify weaknesses and opportunities, as well as solutions for both
• Run any ad hoc / ‘what if’ analyses informed by the model, including in-depth analysis of pricing for new products, financing analyses, vendor expense or headcount projections
• Lead and contribute to business case development of new strategic initiatives
• Help drive the annual budgeting process; prepare monthly and quarterly board and executive reporting
• Build reports utilizing data mining tools, including Excel, Access, SQL and other related reporting software
• Constantly maintain an understanding of both the fine details, and abstract implications, of the above types of work
• Identify the opportunity for, and aiding in the execution of, projects that will help expand margin, cut costs, and otherwise improve our bottom line

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferable in Accounting, Finance, Business, IT Systems or related field
• 3 + years of experience in financial data analysis, preferably within a CPG or logistics corporate environment
• Superior analytical, critical thinking and quantitative skills
• Strong data warehouse and dashboard development background 
• Ability to forge strong relationships with business partners at all levels of the organization
• Highly proficient with Excel, SQL and data analytics and reporting tools
• Familiarity with Power BI, Amazon Web Services and/or Tableau or other reporting software a plus
• Strong drive for results & high sense of urgency
• Ability to multi-task & prioritize
• Rigorous attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Flexibility (open to change) and ability to learn on the fly
• Strong desire to work in a startup and fast-paced environment
• Appetite to take on increased responsibility and grow career quickly
