    Job Responsibilities

    A day in the life of this Energy Apprentice role includes a variety of outreach and administrative tasks. Trainees will be tasked with helping customers and trade allies understand and navigate energy efficiency program requirements. Day to day activities include, reviewing and processing applications, inspecting completed projects, and ensuring that customer questions are answered in a timely manner.

     

    Core job functions include:

    • Learning about energy efficiency incentive programs, and mastering program requirements for the PSEG NJ Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Program.
    • Intake, processing, and tracking of project applications.
    • Entering data into spreadsheets and databases to determine energy savings and to manage current projects which may also include collaborating with Energy Engineers as required.
    • Promoting the energy efficiency program to customers and trade allies within your assigned territory. This might include outreach phone calls or meetings to prospective customers to make the business case for energy efficiency.
    • Verifying installation of appropriate equipment for program-supported projects.
    • Understanding and implementing the company’s Sales Process, including but not limited to:
      • Responding to customer inquiries and concerns by phone, electronically or in person to move projects towards completion.
      • Discussing technical elements of energy consuming equipment—i.e., lighting, HVAC, hot water systems.

    A successful trainee will also be able to demonstrate the following:

     

    • Customer-centric mindset.
    • Ability to decipher technical jargon and effectively communicate those terms to individuals of varying skill levels.
    • Ability to handle a high volume of clients and suppliers.
    • Highly-polished communication skills—written and oral.
    • Creativity, attention to detail, and solid problem-solving capabilities.
    • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    Qualifications

    An ideal candidate must:

    • Love working with people - an action-oriented & results-driven individual with the ability to actively listen & take initiative to seek actionable solutions to customer goals.
    • Have great oral and written communication skills.
    • Possess quick learning skills and technical aptitude and be eager to improve professional skills.
    • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Be able to work in both virtual/remote and in-person settings as dictated by job functions.
    • Have a valid driver’s license required (use of personal vehicle may be necessary). Compliance with acceptable vehicle insurance levels as outlined in the company policy.
    • Be able to use repetitive hand motion.
