    Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. 

    Research in the Commisso lab (www.commissolab.com) is centered on elucidating the underlying mechanisms that drive metabolic stress tolerance in tumors. We are particularly interested in identifying metabolic adaptations and dependencies that contribute to tumor progression and can be targeted to develop novel therapeutic modalities for cancer.

    A POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE position is available to study the role of metabolic stress in tumor cell fitness, chemoresistance or tumor-stroma interactions. In consultation with and under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will plan and manage all aspects of a research project from research design to publication.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Research design and planning
    • Experimentation and trouble-shooting
    • Data collection, analysis and interpretation
    • Data recording and compliance
    • Management of collaborations
    • Results summarization
    • Preparation of text and figures for grants and manuscripts

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • Ph.D. in a biological science
    • Experience with culturing mammalian cells in vitro is preferred
    • Experience with microscopy is preferred

    • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research projects
    • Work independently as well as in a team environment
    • Be responsible and have strong time management skills
    • Able to analyze and resolve issues of high/moderate complexity
    • Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills
    • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, Prism, ImageJ/Fiji

  • Qualifications
    • Working understanding of Quality systems such as AS9100 and ISO-9001
    • Working knowledge of Arbin, Maccor or other battery testers.
    • Operate , write routines, troubleshoot and calibrate Arbin, Maccor or other type battery testers
    • Minimum 5 years’ as Quality Technician with experience in electronic/electrical testing, data analysis, and report writing
    • Excellent communication as you will be working with Engineers and other employees
    • Knowledge of inspection tools such as micrometers, caliper and gages.
    • Great organization skills and follow through on all projects is essential
    • Basic electrical engineering knowledge is required
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
    • ASQ Calibration Technician Certification or equivalent is a plus

     

     

    Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 30-45 pounds, requires sitting, standing, walking.

     

    Work Environment: manufacturing operation and test laboratories
