    PRIMARY FUNCTION : Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Engineer ensures efficient, safe and visitor-centric museum operations by providing technical proficiency in maintenance, housekeeping, and security. This position leads by setting tone and reinforcing standards of excellence for the museum’s facilities staff.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



    Facilities

    • Monitors and manages the building’s mechanical and electrical services using a state-of-the-art Building Management System (BMS)

    • Provides care and maintenance for the building’s plumbing, electrical, lighting, audio/visual and other equipment and systems

    • Works with Facilities Manager to provide staff supervision, coaching, training and troubleshooting. Acts as “Manager on Duty” during daily operations and events.

    • Monitors and provides maintenance for the parking garage, outdoor walkways, exterior lighting systems, plantings, and other maintenance requirements for the building’s grounds

    • Implements and consistently updates a full spectrum preventative maintenance program

    • Operates, maintains, and monitors the building’s HVAC system and associated controls

    • In collaboration with the Facilities Manager, directs repairs on all building equipment; recommends improvements and repairs

    • Oversees the daily custodial care of the museum building

    • Implements quality assurance methods and procedures

    • Works with Facilities Manager to ensure building’s compliance with licensing, permitting, and inspection requirements

    • Ensures safe and comfortable environment for all employees, volunteers and visitors implementing and enforcing industry best practices and policies Works closely with museum departments to plan and provide appropriate set-ups for programs and events, special exhibitions, meetings, building rentals, and other functions in the building

    Security

    • Responsible for the daily staffing of contracted and/or in-house security for the museum, making sure adequate staff is on hand at all times
    • Adheres to Emergency Management Policies & Procedures Responsible for the safety and security of building and objects whether in storage or on display

    Administrative

    • In collaboration with Facilities Manager, leads facilities team with a high level of professionalism and customer service mindset
    • Completes documentation including operating procedures, training manuals and incident reports
    • Oversees staff scheduling to ensure proper coverage for daily operations and events
    • Implements regular training schedules for team members and security officers to maintain a high level of competence
    • Participates in the development of the department’s annual budget preparation and deferred maintenance plans; monitor expenses and approve bills Other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • 3-5 years building operations experience
    • 2+ years supervisory experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of building systems and infrastructure
    • Experience working in an arts, cultural or entertainment organization, preferred
    • Familiarity with building codes and other governmental regulations including OSHA standards
    • Strong project management and organizational skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and function effectively within a team and interdepartmentally Strong computer (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word) and technical troubleshooting skills

    PHYSICAL & SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to ascend/descend ladders
    • Ability to lift 40lbs at a time
    • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility
    • Ability to work “on call” shifts to ensure continuous operation of facility systems
    • Required to work some evenings, weekends and holidays based on the needs of the museum

More than 400 works of art including sculpture, paintings, and jewelry are on display in the museum’s 26,000 square feet of gallery space. The museum engages the community through programs and educational opportunities that bring our history to life and amplify voices that are not often at the forefront of mainstream Western art. The James Museum opened in April 2018 in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, a community with a thriving arts scene, located on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
