    Job Description

    Overview

    The Sr. P&C Underwriter will report to the CEO and COO and shall be responsible for the management of Programs assigned to them. Success shall be accomplished through the management of Program profitability, assuring underwriting guidelines are adhered to, and enforcing our standards and best practices.

    The Senior P&C UW will provide an analysis of the portfolio of business detailing any concerns in coverage, exposure, or expertise of the Program Administrator (“PA”) and/or Managing General Agent (“MGA”). In addition, the Senior P&C UW should establish a good working relationship with underwriters at the PA/MGA. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with COO to tailor underwriting guidelines for specific Program, as well as draft policy language.
    • Communicate to PA/MGA and assure adherence of our underwriting best practices
    • Work with COO to establish underwriting referral triggers for each Program within their portfolio;
    • Participate and schedule audits of each PA/MGA within their portfolio to ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, a minimum of once per year;
    • Assure that any restrictions within reinsurance agreements are being adhered to for their Programs;
    • Work with Actuarial and COO to understand pricing targets;
    • Assist team to develop rate and form filings 
    • Understand and monitor loss trends and results;
    • Assist with special projects and tasks, as directed by upper management.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • College degree plus minimum of 10 years insurance/reinsurance experience
    • Ability to make recommendations on restructure and detailed review of reinsurance contracts.
    • Understanding of Program Business
      • Minimum of 5 years underwriting experience in Casualty, inclusive of General Liability, Automobile, and Umbrella, as well as Property and SIR/Large Deductible programs.
      • Good understanding of insurance accounting and reinsurance
      • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment
    • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, identify problems and propose viable solutions
    • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to interface effectively with other internal departments and all levels of management
