    Job Description

    LOCATION: Philadelphia, PA DESCRIPTION: Remote position! 

    Mortgage Underwriter – grade 43

    Our client is currently seeking a Mortgage Underwriter for the financial division.  The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for underwriting loans according to lending policy, ensuring the client’s standard of quality and procedures are met.  The incumbent will review, analyze and render decisions for customer applications for mortgage loans and define and negotiate credit terms and conditions with sales representatives or customers in order to maximize the balance of credit opportunity and risk.  The incumbent will ensure that all loan requests for mortgage loans are underwritten in accordance with current client's policies, and federal and state regulations up to incumbent’s loan authority.  The incumbent will review loan files for completeness, appropriate credit worthiness, debt-to-ratio, and adequate supporting documentation, review financial statements, personal tax returns, and cash flow analysis when applicable and make credit decisions and document the file and system with the appropriate information.  The incumbent will ensure all required applications have complete HMDA data and obtain the appropriate approvals on requests outside of assigned credit authority. 

    The schedule is a 40 hour work week M-F 8:00AM - 5:00PM

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    •Must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. 

    •Must have 2-4 years of credit review experience, including a strong background reviewing personal and business financial statements, with proven ability to render sound credit decision on own authority.  

    •Must have a strong knowledge in mortgage loan underwriting and analysis, including the review and interpretation of client financial statements and tax returns, review and understanding of data in both personal and business bureaus and a familiarization with Dun & Bradstreet.  

    •Must have practical knowledge of loan documents and real estate terminology, FHLMC/FNMA and portfolio lending practices, and State and Federal agency policies and procedures.

    •Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills to interact with both internal and external customers. 

    •Must have strong PC spreadsheet skills and excellent analytical skills. 

    •This position requires independent thinking in collaboration with other professionals to address financial issues. 

    •Must have experience with encompass.
