We are seeking a dynamic Staff Accountant to join our team. A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for the hospitality industry and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Job Overview
A Staff Accountant is responsible for recording and reconciling Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Income Audit functions for the property. They will post, audit, and reconcile ledgers, statements, and relevant financial operations reports. A passion for the hospitality industry and an entrepreneurial spirit are key to success. They will assist the Accounting Manager and Director of Finance with preparation of the monthly financial statements and associated reconciliations. They should possess excellent organization and customer service skills and have a collaborative and self-starting mentality.
The person holding this position must possess good communication and reconciliation skills, and have a thorough understanding of LINE policies, procedures and expectations.
Because of the fluctuating demands of the company’s operation, it may be necessary that each employee perform a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your position, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employees are expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Audit daily hotel, F&B revenue, and third party transactions
Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures, i.e. proper approvals are obtained, appropriate support documentation is attached, prices and quantities are verified, etc.
Post payments in property management system, reconcile and bill all ledger accounts
Verify and process invoices, check requests, and expense reports
Investigate and reconcile revenue discrepancies
Record ACH and wire payments in accounting systems and audit reconciliation of credit card charges and payments
Perform cash handling and reconciliation functions for the hotel
Enter invoices for payment into the accounting system in a timely manner, ensuring all expenses are accounted for in the correct period
Manage weekly check runs and communicate with the Director of Finance to ensure cash flow is being monitored
Prepare and distribute vendor checks
Maintain the accounts payable and accounts receivable aging lists
Maintain and analyze general ledger, making corrections as necessary including making journal entries for any necessary accruals
Reconcile vendor statements and assist in researching and resolving discrepancies which includes requesting missing invoices from vendors
Correspond with vendors and clients, respond to inquiries, and maintain positive relationships with third party partners
Actively participate in the management of the PO System and corporate policies and procedures
Prepare and distribute yearly 1099s
Perform follow-up billing, credit collection documentation and communicate any accounts of concern to Director of Finance
Set up new accounts in accordance with established credit policy
Process month-end and year-end AR & AP closing
Provide month-end support for reconciliation and journal entries
Must be courteous and gracious, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times
Establish and maintain good communications and teamwork with colleagues and other departments within the hotel
Take ownership of all accounting issues brought to your attention by guests, employees, clients, or vendors
Participate in scheduled departmental and administrative meetings as requested
Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, memos and verbal instructions
Be familiar with all safety and emergency procedures including OSHA requirements
Knowledge, Requirements and Skills
High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Two (2) years related experience in hospitality or service industry preferred
Computer Proficiency: Microsoft Office including Excel is required. Experience with Opera PMS, Acumatica, Simphony POS or equivalent systems is preferred.
Knowledge in math and algebraic equations using percentages
Demonstrate ability to proactively prioritize needs and daily activities, and effectively manage resources and time.
