    OVERVIEW

    TLM Radio is the first live radio show originating from a prison environment and run by currently and formerly incarcerated individuals, and members of The Last Mile education and technical training program. The goal of TLM Radio is to enable a touch point and general, two-way visibility from inside to outside the prison setting, and drive forward the conversation of how we can help resolve the issues of mass incarceration in America, starting with better programs for 21st century skills building and job preparedness in prison. The TLM Radio show includes reporting on stories and current events, interviewing experts, reporters, and the public (both inside and outside of prison) and will be both broadcast live over the SiriusXM platform and made available as a podcast. The target audience of the show is the general public, hoping to inform and foster dialogue of current issues in and around criminal justice reform.

    The TLM Radio Host, Returned Citizen is primary, on-air host of the TLM Radio show. This position hosts a weekly, one-hour talk show that is informative, entertaining and incorporates the mission, values, and organizational pillars of The Last Mile into discussions of trends/topics in modern criminal justice reform. Additionally, the TLM Radio Host partners with incarcerated host, SiriusXM Program Director, and leaders of The Last Mile to create engaging content, increase listenership and educate the audience.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Complete radio broadcast education and training program 
    • Host dynamic, informative and entertaining talk show. 
    • Interview guests, moderate debates, and converse with callers.
    • Collaborate with incarcerated host, show Producer, Program Director, and The Last Mile to create segment topics for the show.
    • Collaborate with TLM Marketing staff to follow national trends in criminal justice reform and within the TLM organization and offering.
    • Prepare for the show by regularly reviewing various media sources including relevant criminal justice reform websites, blogs, podcasts, magazines, and social media platforms.
    • Participate in promotion of the show, The Last Mile and SiriusXM on and off air, including creation of promotional materials, interviews, and creating content.
    • Meet with the Program Director and leaders of The Last Mile on a regular basis to review on-air performance and establish on-going goals for the show.

      

    REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL SKILLS:

    • Former participant in a The Last Mile Program
    • Passion for TLM and the work we do
    • Excellent communicator with strong on-air presence, presenting a genuine, informed and approachable personality with the ability to create topics that are clear and concise.
    • Strong interview skills in working with other talent, artists, and high-profile individuals.
    • Strong knowledge of current events, The Last Mile, and criminal justice reform.
    • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask, and work and respond quickly under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Able to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
