    Job Description

    This job is located at two schools:

    The League School, 567 Kingston Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11203

    and

    Joan Fenichel Therapeutic Nursery (JFTN), 480 Clermont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238

     

    We are seeking Special Education teachers to work in preschool at JFTN and in our school age program (ages 5–21) at the League School. (EEO/AA/M/F/Vets/Disabled)

    Responsibilities for Certified Special Education teachers:

    Including but not limited to:

    • Assess developmental functioning and learning skills of students based on IEP goals utilizing appropriate assessment tools
    • Write annual goals, behavioral objectives and intervention strategies corresponding with assessment in consultation with other disciplines
    • Evaluate student progress on an on-going basis
    • Prepare weekly lesson plans according to a planned sequence with IEP goals and plan/share with teacher assistants
    • Instruct and supervise teacher assistants and substitute teacher assistants in appropriate techniques to work effectively with children
    • Participates in program planning and interdisciplinary team meetings

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Must have NYS Student with Disabilities teaching certification (Birth – Grade 2)
    • Must have NYS Student with Disabilities teaching certification (Grades 1 -6, Grades 7-12)

    Skills and/or Experience Required:

    • Prior experience working with children (ages 3-5) and school age children, preferably special needs population or a similar combination of work and experience
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Highly organized

    Total compensation package is commensurate with experience, education, and credentials.
