PROGRAM AND JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Learning House is a year-round junior and senior high therapeutic day school program serving students possessing varying disabilities that include, but are not limited to, emotional and/or behavioral challenges, learning disabilities, executive functioning deficits, ADHD, and Autism or combinations thereof. The Associate Teacher assists in all aspects of the instructional program and behavioral management of students. The Associate Teacher may also be responsible for small group instruction under the direct or indirect supervision of the teacher or administrator. The Associate teacher participates in activities necessary to maintain classroom integration and to support students’ Individualized Education Plans in all curricular areas, including, but not limited to, classroom, community, vocational, recreational, and domestic domains.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in the preparation and delivery of the education program across subject areas throughout the day under the supervision of an assigned licensed staff member.
- Assists in the direct supervision of students under the supervision of a licensed staff member.
- Assists in the implementation of the therapeutic program for each student consistent with the student’s Therapeutic plan.
- Assists in crisis prevention and intervention services in a manner consistent with program policy under the supervision of designated licensed staff.
- Facilitates students’ instruction, individually and collectively, to meet course outcome goals.
- Provides individual and small group instruction under the supervision of a licensed staff member.
- Retains responsibility for required documentation:
- Monthly progress summary
- Data collection
- Report Cards – mid semester and end of the semester
- Additional documentation such as incident reports, field trip summaries, etc.
- Collaborates with teachers in program planning and problem solving activities.
- Drives a van route to and from school on a daily basis and completes required training in order to do so.
- Attends all required staff meetings, treatment planning meetings and in-service programs conducted by or for the school staff.
- Plans and supervises one activity in addition to teaching assignments per contract.
- Performs any additional responsibilities delegated by the Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meet the state requirements for Paraprofessional or Substitute Teacher Educator License; Bachelor’s Degree and experience working with special needs students preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Twenty-one years of age, valid Driver’s License, good driving record.
- Willingness to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and staff.
- Strong academic abilities
- Ability to converse in Spanish a plus.
