    The Luminos Fund, an international nonprofit bringing education opportunities to the world's most vulnerable children, is seeking a Research and Technical Writing Consultant to support its work on the Luminos Method – a series of resources that combine the latest research with key practices and data from our work.

    The Research and Technical Writing Consultant will have an exemplary ability to translate technical research into compelling content understood by a range of audiences, including donors, partners, and governments. Additionally, they will be a talented communicator, excellent writer, capable project leader, and exceptionally detail-oriented.

    This consultant will be fully remote and can be based anywhere in the GMT -5 to +1 time zones (Boston/Washington D.C., London/Accra, Paris, etc.). This is a one-year, part-time contract role based on project needs, and will report to the Senior Communications Manager.

    ABOUT THE LUMINOS FUND

    The Luminos Fund (www.luminosfund.org) provides transformative education programs to thousands of out-of-school children, helping them to catch up to grade level, reintegrate into government schools, and prepare for lifelong learning. Working in partnership with community-based organizations, Luminos is scaling up its accelerated learning program to ensure all children have equal access to joyful, foundational learning, especially those shut out of education by crisis, poverty, or discrimination. To date, Luminos has helped over 218,541 children secure a second chance to learn. A registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Luminos is working in Ethiopia, Ghana, Lebanon, Liberia, and The Gambia.

    Luminos is supported by a range of funding partners, including Cartier Philanthropy, The LEGO Foundation, and UBS Optimus Foundation. Luminos has been recognized for its achievements globally, receiving the 2022 Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice Prize, the Library of Congress International Literacy Award, the Lipman Family Prize, the WISE Award, and the HundrED Global Innovation Award for the last six years.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct a full literature review for each case study topic, ensuring they are grounded in research-based evidence and incorporate best practices in education.
    • Conduct interviews with Luminos staff and partners to gain insights on key practices and data from our work.
    • Provide a detailed analysis of the information collected during the research process.
    • Present the findings in a clear and concise manner.
    • Develop four case studies that detail our approach, challenges in implementation, opportunities for scaling impact, and recommendations for improving access to quality education, following in the style and voice of the existing Luminos Method elements.
    • Work closely with the Luminos team to ensure the case studies align with the Luminos Method strategy and priority.
    • Ensure that the case studies are of the highest quality and meet all project deadlines.
    • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure that case studies effectively communicate key messages and recommendations.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required Experience

    • Master's Degree in Education.
    • At least 5 years of experience conducting educational research in the African context preferred, including tool development, data collection, data management, analysis, and report writing.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to successfully manage consultation and feedback processes.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Experience with case study development.
    • Willingness to provide writing samples.
    • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English.
