  • Responsibilities

    We are looking for highly self-motivated, energetic and organized individuals who are interested in learning the dynamics of working in a legislative office while making an impact in their community.

    No matter your major! Like, Katie Ramirez, Summer 2017 Maddy Scholar Intern in Senator Andy Vidak's Hanford District Office. She is a Health Science major with a concentration in Community Health, projected to graduate in 2018 and has an interest in the policy issues surrounding Public Health, Education, and Veteran Affairs.

    ""I'm excited to serve my hometown community by applying my knowledge and background of the Central Valley to the everyday operations of the Hanford District Office, while gaining a better understanding of the legislative process," said Katie.

    As an intern you will support staff with special events, constituent services, and special projects related to the office's general administrative duties.

    Essential duties include:

    • Assist with research and planning of upcoming events and projects
    • Provide accurate and complete information in response to constituent inquiries and community issues
    • Legislative duties, including policy research and bill tracking
    • Learn how to study, draft, and (possibly) publish briefs, blogs and papers on current issues facing our community.
    • Active involvement in monitoring District and State issues, current events and relevant legislation
    • Develop clear knowledge and understanding of principles, functions, practices and operations of the California State Legislature
    • Assist with responding to a variety of constituent inquiries and issues
    • Obtain an understanding of how policy is formed and practiced.
    • Learn how to track and analyze new legislation.
    • Have an opportunity to attend meetings on in Sacramento and D.C. illustrating firsthand how Congressional hearings, events and conferences work.
    • Assist with and maintain office procedures, routine correspondence, telephone inquiries and special projects
