A LITTLE MORE ABOUT US:

We founded Marcy Lab School because we saw room for innovation. We saw the lack of affordable, high-quality, post-secondary education opportunities, especially for young people from underserved communities. We also saw the lack of representation in the tech industry and within its talent pipeline, despite the sector’s immense growth. We wanted to connect all of the wildly talented young people who needed a more promising ROI than traditional college to all of the opportunities in the tech sector, but we wanted to go beyond teaching code to provide a 360 curriculum that deeply engages the needs of low-income young people of color who have been routinely and systematically underestimated. We address their personal and professional development, the issues they will face in the workforce, and the challenges of an ever-evolving tech landscape.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

You’ll work directly with fellows as their primary support system, their leadership coach, their career coach, and a facilitator of our Leadership Development and Critical Race Theory curriculum, supporting them in cultivating their confidence and career fluency before they step into the sector. The promise that we make to our young people is that by the end of their year, they will know themselves, their worth, and their standard of excellence. Our Program Managers make this possible.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

• Serve as Leadership and Career Coach for a cohort of fellows as they make their way through this rigorous and life changing program, leading individually-tailored coaching conversations designed to cultivate confidence and emotional resilience. Coaching conversations range from mindset coaching, communication & career fluency, academic counseling, and personal counseling.
• Design and lead group professional development and community building sessions for our alumni.
• Co-design and lead our weekly Leadership Development and Critical Race Theory seminars. We're a big fan of scholars such as Dr. Beverly Tatum, Kimberlé Crenshaw, and Michelle Alexander. You'll leverage texts from these incredible thinkers and many others to prompt our students to both analyze the world and their lives through different lenses of race, identity, and equity.
• Serve as a professional readiness and career fluency coach, feedback on non-technical written work, professional email writing, resume and LinkedIn building, and interview and presentation preparation.
• Rise to the challenge of the needs of the day and be ready to find the appropriate resources to do so--whether they be supporting a fellow through a unique life or family challenge, last minute immigration paperwork, or last minute presentation preparation.
