Position Title: Network Engineer

Position Location: Chicago

Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoots existing information systems, applications, middleware, or network incidents. Brainstorms workable solutions and evaluates alternatives against decision criteria.
• Configures switches for technology refreshes.
• Work closely with Project Managers to help with coordination in order to create efficiencies, maintain full alignment on project requirements, tasks, and resources.
• Captures, documents, and communicates site level requirements to ensure comprehensive understanding of the environment, tasks to be performed, and expected results.
• Demonstrates consultative style and polished communication skills.
• Provides status updates and reports out as needed.
• May provide leadership on team responsible for the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel or service provider personnel. Works with vendors during the problem resolution process as needed.
• Provides technical expertise across business functions and identifies opportunities to improve business processes via modern technologies.
• Researches and analyzes technologies within the area of required expertise.
• Assist with assessing the environments and emerging technologies to determine needs to refresh technology. Evaluates and may recommend new products or tools for the organization.
• Makes recommendations that may influence the long-term technology strategy and planning for multiple business units.
• Works with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy and architecture.
• Serves as a consultant and escalation point for issues. Provides project managers with technical consultation and advice, enabling quick response to inquiries related to the program/project.
• Provides technical analyses to help define, assess, and monitor the technical aspects of the program/project or service.
• No architectural design experience is required

Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related field plus 5+ years of experience or 10+ years of relevant work experience in subject matter expert capacity required to satisfy education and experience requirements
• Certification in ITIL, MCSE, CCNP is highly preferred
• Solid knowledge of computer network architecture, data transmission and bandwidth
• Demonstrated knowledge of computing environments including VM (Virtual Machine), Windows, network operations centers, storage solutions and Riverbed and Netbrain Monitoring
