    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Front End Web Developer utilizes a wide range of web development skills and a keen eye for design to implement and maintain visual elements that users see and interact within the Museum’s web, mobile and onsite digital applications. S/he will work with existing website templates and build new templates to improve user experience, offer interactive and educational tools, ensure ease-of-use and responsiveness across all platforms and devices. Reporting to the Director of Digital Marketing, the Front End Web Developer plays a pivotal role supporting various department needs and in advancing the public understanding of organized crime’s history and impact on American society.

    MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide technical leadership with regard to design, development and debugging of new web projects, applications and websites.
    • Work with Director of Digital Marketing, VP of Marketing, Communication and Sales, as well as managers to implement website and mobile app updates, interactive solutions and digital communication for The Mob Museum.
    • Develop, manage & maintain websites in common CMS platforms (WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, etc.)
    • Ensure Mob Museum websites meet current web standards and best practices in search engine optimization, load times and accessibility.
    • Collaborate with design team to match visual design intent and execute responsive design for multiple browsers and devices.
    • Test functionality, user experience and debug all projects before deployment.
    • Assist with email templates and email automation within a CRM and email marketing platform.
    • Develop and document technical solutions and workflows.
    • Write code that is readable, structured and with detailed notes to ensure ease of transition to other resources.
    • Work within Gateway Galaxy Connect Platform to assist with integration with OTA’s and Ticketing System.
    • Write neat, semantic, indented and thoroughly commented code for HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
    • Assist back-end developer with effective implementation of front-end templates, HTML, CSS and JavaScript to develop e-commerce websites.
    • Troubleshoot any front-end technical or performance issues that may arise
    • Self-manage development tasks and proactively raise issues, concerns and suggestions to the stakeholders.
    • Be aware of emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them to operations and activities.
    • Work with team and across departments to scope new functionality and project requests.
    • Manage multiple projects, understand business needs and be consultative throughout the process.
    • Participate in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment
    • Other duties as assigned.

    EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

    • 8+ total years of related web development experience with a minimum of 4 years of direct experience in front-end programming.
    • Knowledge of primary SEO elements and tools such as Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, structured data, tracking pixels, click events, A/B Testing and metadata.
    • Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP and JQuery.
    • Extensive WordPress and cloud-hosting knowledge.
    • Experience with third party APIs, WordPress custom themes and plugins.
    • Proficient in eCommerce & WooCommerce Website Development
    • Familiarity with Liquid programming language for Shopify preferred.
    • Strong understanding of UX and UI Design Principles for websites and mobile apps.
    • Experience in responsive web design and wireframes and mobile app design and UX/UI.
    • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.  Experience with Adobe InDesign a plus.
    • Proficiency in SQL preferred.
    • Experience with advanced web performance analysis and performance improvements preferred.
    • Experience with C++ or App Development preferred.
    • Knowledge of best practices in digital marketing and CRMs.
    • Experience with data visualization a plus.
    • Intense passion and strong desire to be successful in the field of web development or programming.
    • Organized and detail-oriented mind set.
    • Required experience with GIT, and ability to maintain a project with multiple contributors and version control.
    • Experience working with APIs and integrating third party services.
    • Weekend and evening availability on an occasional basis, which can be as frequent as several times per month.
    • Passion for creating a world-class museum that is unrivaled in content and recognized for a truly outstanding guest experience.
    • Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.

    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. Substantial relevant experience can be substituted for educational requirement.
