  • Responsibilities

    Household Assistants keep the day-to-day operations of a home running smoothly. They are the planners, coordinators, and helpers for today’s busy families. As a Household Assistant, you could support large households with complicated scheduling needs, smaller families who want to focus on spending more time with their children, or career professionals who need to devote an enormous amount of time towards their business. As a Household Assistant, you have the potential to become an invaluable ally.

    I. Position Summary - Private Household Assistants are responsible for overseeing the general operations of a home.

    Expectations may include:

    • Manage the household’s schedules and calendar
    • Event planning, organizing, and coordination
    • Arrange appointments for personal and professional needs
    • Schedule home maintenance and repair work, and supervising the project
    • Administrative duties
    • Run errands and perform necessary tasks
    • Supervise other household staff, such as housekeepers, private chefs, nannies or governesses
    • Shop for food, supplies, and other requested items
    • Child Care

    Depending on the size of a family and their requirements, private household assistants may be called upon to fulfill other needs, such as:

    • Home cleaning duties
    • Cook meals for the family
    • Launder and put away clothing, or change linens

    II. Minimum Requirements:

    • Have a High School Diploma, GED or suitable equivalent
    • At least 18 years of age
    • Possess a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record demonstrating proficient driving skills.
    • Legally authorized to work in the United States
    • Flexible, adaptable, and versatile
    • Have 3+ years of childcare experience, including infant care, or related professional experience (daycare, teaching, etc.)
    • Successful completion of Mandated Reporter Training
    • Successful completion of, or willingness to successfully complete, car seat safety training prior to start date
    • Background check demonstrating suitability for this position caring for young children without supervision
    • Possess valid CPR and First-Aid Certifications or be willing to obtain or renew as a condition of hire
    • Knowledge of technology applications
    • Proficient knowledge of home safety
    • Possess sound moral character and kind disposition suitable for caring for children of all ages without supervision.
    • Be physically fit, energetic, agile, and dexterous
    • Provide proof of current vaccinations including but not limited to Td or Tdap, MMR, HepA, HepB, PCV, influenza
    • Affinity for pets

    III. Primary Responsibilities

    • Create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for the child(ren)
    • Reliable and predictable
    • Punctual, arriving on the job as schedule
    • Discipline the child(ren) according to the family’s preferred parenting style
    • Arrange appropriate playdates and outings
    • Engage in indoor and outdoor play
    • Research, plan, and engage children in educational activities and crafts
    • Launder children’s clothes, bedding, etc.
    • Plan meals, prepare food, and feed the child(ren)
    • Help with homework
    • Organize bedrooms/playroom/toys
    • Administer medicine with parents’ consent, if necessary
    • Perform light housekeeping such as dishwashing, grocery shopping, tidying up, vacuuming, etc.
    • Perform several childcare, and childcare-related tasks, simultaneously
    • Engage in physical activities with children over uneven and various terrain
    • Prevent harm to the child(ren), including but not limited to the ability to take swift action to prevent harm or remove children from potentially harmful circumstances.
    • Lift up to 25 lbs.
    • Stand/bend/stretch/reach/kneel/crawl, etc.
    • Work with and care for pets
    • Maintain care records
    • Safely and legally operate a motor vehicle to carpool, or drive children to school, activities, medical appointments, playdates or run errands
    • Help with event prep (basic food prep, setting up tables/decor)
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the family.
