    Job Description

    The Quality Manager is responsible for the management of all QA and QC activities at the site and associated storage areas used to manage materials for the products produced at the site. Provides leadership and guidance to the Quality team and is a member of the factory leadership team.  The position will have several direct reports across all production shifts at this location.

    Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Has ownership of and deploys the quality management systems and test plans as defined by corporate policies and procedures 
    • Builds and implements factory food safety, food defense, and quality plans
    • Provides guidance, coaching and training to the factory team in the areas of Quality and Food Safety
    • Provide day to day leadership to Quality Assurance department staff
    • Create procedures to ensure compliance with current regulations and best practices
    • Mmanagement and oversight of contracted facility food safety prerequisites, e.g. pest control, water management, lubricant and chemical safety, etc.
    • Provides guidance and assistance, data collection and interpretation for new product production trial
    • Functional leader of the HACCP team and deployment of the HACCP plan to ensure product safety
    • Understands equipment, commissioning procedures, pre-operational preparation requirements, process controls and sanitation requirements for all equipment used to manufacture dietary supplements at this site
    • Develops work instructions provides training in all aspects of quality, food safety equipment operation and sanitation for associates at the facility  
    • Tracks and trend quality issues at the plant and provides data to improve the performance of the quality management system
    • Utilizes statistical methods, SPC, DOE, etc., to evaluate and improve factory process and product performance
    • Maintains quality management system, associated documentation and all records required to manage the development, production and distribution of the products manufactured at these facilities
    • Conducts root cause analysis studies with operations to build effective CAPAs, determine disposition of discrepant material
    • Work with raw material/component suppliers and Procurement to effectively communicate quality issues and achieve resolution
    • Participates in the Corporate Quality Internal Audit program, leading or participating in annual audits of other The Nature’s Bounty Co. sites
    • Act as primary liaison to corporate Quality Assurance and outside Regulatory agencies, i.e. US FDA, State Department of Agriculture and other agencies as required for the business.
    • Serve as primary liaison for 3rd party customer audits
    • Monitor the performance and competency of Quality Assurance staff and provide development as needed
    • Prepare and maintain licenses and permits for the facility
    • Serve as primary plant liaison for customer/consumer quality complaint issues. Approve complaint investigations performed by staff
    • Designs and deploys KPIs as needed to improve factory performance and reports to KPI information to all levels of the organization
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years in the food, dietary supplement or nutraceutical business would be preferred.
    • 3+ years of experience managing teams, preferably with a plant manufacturing focus.
    • Experience preparing and approving SOPs to support the Quality Management systems as defined by International standards, e.g. ISO 22000, ISO 17025, etc.
    • Knowledge of 21 CFR part 110, 21 CFR part 111, 21 CFR part 117, 21 CFR 121,and other regulatory standards governing the sanitation and hygiene of food manufacturing is preffered
    • Experience in quality audit program management and audit skills training, ASQ – CQA (certified quality auditor) or other.
    • Experience in managing laboratory operations.
    • Experience in managing Quality Assurance activities.
    • Experience in hosting and managing regulatory and 3rd party audits.
    • Experience in dealing with government agencies, primarily FDA.
    • Bachelor’s in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or Science related field required or other closely related discipline with significant experience can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Certification in HACCP principles; Experience on a HACCP leadership team implementing a Food Safety Plan.
    • Good planning and organizational skills
    • Ability to lead, train, motivate, and work within a team
    • Excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills
    • Experience with data collection, data management analytics and KPI reporting
    • Knowledge of Quality toolkit – problem solving, basic statistics, corrective/ preventive actions
    • Skillful auditor, CQA preferred.
    • SQF practitioner / FSSC/ BRC/ ISO experience preferred
    • Good technical writer
