    At The Nieves Law Firm, we believe in creating trusting relationships with clients and taking the “criminal” out of criminal defense. Our mission is to restore the reputations of those accused of crimes and help them plan for the future. We are seeking a full-time Associate Attorney with experience in a private criminal defense setting or a Public Defender's office. Candidates with jury trial, preliminary hearing, and felony experience are preferred but we are willing to coach hardworking and committed team members who have at least 1 year of exposure to criminal law and restraining order concepts. Candidates must be high energy and willing to hit the ground running. The right candidates will be able to manage their time and cases effectively. This is a fast paced position but is ideal for someone who is still committed to providing quality service to every client in the firm at all times no matter the pace. We are seeking candidates who work hard to produce excellent results. Strong oral and written advocacy skills are required. Responsibilities: • Prepare for hearings in advance, research potential issues, guide the clients clearly and provide strategic advice • Advocate for and secure the best possible outcome for clients • Be familiar with and apply post-conviction remedies • Stay up to date in changes in the law • Properly advise clients on the immigration consequences associated with their case • Draft and submit motions and other filings on time - meeting internal and external deadlines • Arrive at work and court on time in professional and appropriate attire • Maintain a good rapport with clients and treat them with respect • Participate in ongoing training as required by the Firm Qualifications: • 1-5 years of Criminal Defense experience • High energy and eagerness to learn • Strong research and writing skills • Must be prepared and punctual • Excellent time management skills • Committed to providing high-quality client service • Possess a J.D. and be in good standing with the State Bar of CA • Willingness to travel throughout Alameda County and surrounding Bay Area • Spanish speakers encouraged to apply Compensation: $75,000 - $110,000 yearly
