The Nightingale-Bamford school is a K-12 all-girls independent school with a focus on inclusion, acceptance, and educating the hearts and minds of tomorrow’s strong leaders. This is a full-time position that primarily includes teaching 1st, 2nd, and/or 3rd grade general music. In addition to implementing a joyful, student-centered curriculum in these grade-levels, candidates would collaborate regularly with the Director of Lower School Music in facilitating weekly grade-wide, integrated music instruction (known as “Sing”), planning music for Lower School Assembly, and preparing students for developmentally appropriate performances throughout the year.

Our general music pedagogy is grounded in the Orff and Kodaly approaches. Our aim is to include singing, movement, playing instruments, and music literacy in every class, with students engaged in as much active music-making as possible. Instrumental instruction includes recorder (in third grade), unpitched percussion, and Orff instruments.

Depending on candidate experience, this role could include co-directing our 5th grade chorus and/or directing a Middle School percussion ensemble.

Please see the description below for more details:

    Qualifications include:

    • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music in Music, Music Education or Performance.

    • Experience teaching general and vocal music to elementary school children.

    • Experience with the Kodaly and Orff approaches. Levels training in one or both pedagogies is highly preferred.

    • Exhibit a history of creating and teaching an inclusive curriculum constructed through a DEI lens.

    • A warm and enthusiastic personality with excellent interpersonal skills.

    • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and establish relationships with students, faculty, and administration.

    • Genuine passion, excitement, and enthusiasm for creating music with students of all ages and abilities.

    • Punctual, detail-oriented, and flexible.

    • Able to take feedback.

    • Work closely with colleagues in any and all musical projects.

    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    • Responsible for teaching 3-6 classes a day.

    • Musically prepare and rehearse LS students for formal and informal performances throughout the school year.

    • Collaborate with classroom and music teachers to create programming that is meaningful, age-appropriate, and integrated with the level curriculum as appropriate.

    • Writing narrative reports for every music student at the end of each semester.

All interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, references at https://www.nightingale.org/careers. PLEASE CONSOLIDATE THESE DOCUMENTS INTO ONE PDF IF POSSIBLE. Candidates are welcome but not required to separately submit any short teaching videos.
