    Job Overview

    Synthego is transforming scientists into designers with the first industrialized CRISPR genetic editing platform. As products progress through our facilities, we generate data at every step. Teams across our entire organization leverage these rich datasets to make informed business, product, and development decisions that hinge on our teams’ abilities to easily access data.

    Synthego is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our Core Software team to help us build robust, scalable infrastructure to enable access to our commercial, biological, and manufacturing datasets across the company.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    The primary activities that drive success in the role include:

    • Design, build, deploy, and maintain production-stable data analysis pipelines
    • Extend our data warehouse to include new subject areas and help ensure consistent dimension definitions across the organization
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists, bioinformatics, process engineering, and operations, to ensure easy, rapid, and accurate data access for the entire company

    Qualifications

    • BS or greater in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, or equivalent discipline
    • 3 years professional software experience, including data warehousing, data integration, and ETL/analytics pipelines
    • Demonstrated ability to write readable, well-tested, production-ready code with well-designed APIs
    • Fluent in Python data stack (Pandas, Numpy, etc.)
    • Knowledge of SQL best practices, including schema design, query optimization, and migration management
    • Familiarity with cloud computing service platforms (e.g., AWS)
    • Passion for working with business users to develop analytics tools in a fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment

     

    Not Required, but Nice to Have

     

    • Experience with web application frameworks (e.g., Django REST/ORM, Flask/SQLAlchemy)
    • Experience with biological data sets (sequencing, cell imaging)
    • Knowledge of integrating with BI tools such as Tableau
    • Familiarity with workflow management systems such as Airflow, Luigi, or Prefect
