    Summary: Primary duties for a mid-level engineer position in their transportation design group are focused on leading design efforts, design teams, efficient design practice and plan production for a variety of transportation projects. Transportation projects include work for the South Dakota Department of Transportation, Municipal and private clients involving feasibility studies, alternatives analysis, public involvement, roadway design, traffic design, and drainage design familiarity.     Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

    • Leads design efforts and team coordination on larger varied and complex transportation projects.
    • Provides design decisions under the direction of a Project Manager,
    • Manages small to mid-sized transportation projects,
    • Assists in data collection, technical analyses, and written documentation with supervision, as needed,
    • Is actively involved in client interaction and participation in presentations in a supporting role,
    • Uses computer assisted engineering [MicroStation/InRoads (Open Roads) and AutoCAD/Civil3D] design software to prepare engineering and design documents,
    • Responsible for job specific quality system tasks as defined in the company’s quality manual.
    • Has a positive, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset.

    Requirements/Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
    • 5 or more years of progressive Transportation Engineering experience
    • South Dakota PE license, or able to obtain a South Dakota PE license within one-year of employment (negotiable)
    • Experience working with SDDOT highly preferred.
    • Proficient in MicroStation and AutoCAD highly preferred
    • Familiarity with ArcView GIS software and high proficiency in Excel is a plus.
