    Job Description

    The Southeast Permanente Medical Group, (TSPMG)/ Kaiser Permanente is happy to announce an opening for a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA). This individual will be responsible for the health, maintenance, and performance of the Kaiser Permanente/Georgia SQL Server data warehouse. The DBA owns traditional duties such as managing database backups, performance tuning, configuration, and security. Moreover, the DBA will also establish standards for database object naming, access, dev/prod management. He or she will also work with the data team on designing and implementing changes to the data warehouse architecture. To that end, the DBA is responsible for reviewing, documenting, and promoting changes from development to production. Finally, the DBA will review complex queries and possibly re-write/optimize those queries.

    This role is part of the Business Intelligence Group’s Data Team. The team owns the regional data warehouse and has full decision control over its design, architecture, ETL, and access. The data team is a closely-knit, diverse, and dynamic group, that works remotely with flexible hours, and possesses significant freedom in proposing and implementing best-of-class solutions, standards, and techniques. This role reports to and works directly with the Director of Data Architecture.

    The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field and have 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Top-level knowledge of SQL, T-SQL, and SQL server tools
    • Advanced knowledge of database and query performance monitoring and optimization
    • Strong working knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, SQL Agent, and SSIS.
    • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling and optimizing the database for both.
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Excellent work ethnic and strong intellectual curiosity
    • Ability to work quickly and efficiently, and to multi-task
    • Desire and ability to innovate and improve upon current processes
    • Attention to detail

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

    • MCSE/MCSA certifications preferred
    • Experience with Microsoft Azure
    • DBA experience in a data warehousing context
    • Experience with SSAS, SSRS
    • Experience of supporting databases with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Serve as the principal DBA for the SQL Server 2016 data warehouse
    • Responsibility of the performance, security and health of the SQL Server instance and databases.
    • Managing database backups, health checks, maintenance plans.
    • Setting up and managing access/security roles.
    • Optimizing database performance via indices, statistics, table partitioning, and so on.
    • Working with data architects and ETL developers to ensure that SQL Agent jobs and ETL processes are working optimally and efficiently.
    • Deploying changes from development to production.
    • Monitoring, optimizing, and modifying user queries as appropriate.
