The Talent Mine is recruiting for a Software Engineering Manager with an open source background and "green thumb" to join a growing climate change non-profit.  This is the role "you" have been looking for, a leadership role with an organization that is literally growing forests to stave off the negative impacts of climate change, and they need you to help build their software development team and best practices.  If you have an open source background, a startup "get it done" mentality and are looking for a career move that inspires you every day, you've found the right role!

    Overview:

This role reports to the Director of Product and Engineering, and will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the organization’s software platform strategy.  They are Canadian based, open to full time remote work, and want a "player coach" that is more coach than player (i.e. you have strong leadership skills first and foremost, and keep up with your tech skills).

Your qualifications and expectations for the role resemble the following:

    • 10+ years of overall software development expertise, with 2+ years building and leading high-performing engineering teams
    • A proven track record to manage goals, performance, and career advancement for direct reports
    • Experience developing and maintaining event-driven web applications
    • Proven ability to deliver software products from concept to production
    • Tech stack includes most of the following: Python, PostgreSQL, Java, JavaScript, Cucumber and RabbitMQ
    • You have a backend focused, full stack mentality and can drive best practices with CI/CD, Unit Testing, Agile and Kanban
    • Comfortable working virtually across international settings and time zones

    Bonus skills:

    • Mobile application development for Android (Kotlin/Java)
    • Experience building products that leverage geospatial data and databases
    • Microservices: Hybrid Monolith, Isolated Services, Monorepos
    • Distributed Systems: Design, Caching, CQRS, Event Driven
