    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Improvement, the Wound Care Nurse/RN is responsible for all phases of the Wound Care Nursing Program.

    The Wound Care Nurse/RN must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the residents served on his/her unit – adolescent through geriatric.  The Wound Care Nurse/RN must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each resident's requirements relative to their age-specific needs; and to provide the care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.

    EDUCATION:

    Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.

    Certified Wound Care Specialist required.

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience in a geriatric setting required

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Medium Work: duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.  Position involves bending, reaching, stooping and lifting (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.  Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:

    Determines appropriate preventative measures and nursing care for individual residents based on the nursing process and incorporates this into the plan of care.  Monitors and evaluates, through the quality improvement process, the Wound Care Nursing Program including data entry.  Assists in the hiring, training, developing, and evaluating the job performance of the Wound Care Nursing Department staff.  Participates in wound care staffings and wound care management teams.  Serves as nursing liaison with physicians for the Wound Care Nursing Program.  Attend education seminars and professional meetings.

    • Interpret written instructions and decipher information and explain to others in the performance of this
    • Speak, read, write and understand English

     

    Work Environment:

     

    The work environment characteristics of this job are consistent with those an employee encounters while performing the essential Security Guard duties and responsibilities. The employee must be able to work in harsh, wet, cold, and hot weather. Area is subject to blowing dust and sand with temperatures ranging from 30 degrees F in the winter to 125(+) degrees F in the summer.

     

    Physical Requirements:

     

    The physical demands of this position are consistent with those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.  While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and see.  The employee must be able to stand on their feet continuously for 8 to 10 hours per day.  The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and bend.  The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds without assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
