    GENERAL SUMMARY:

     Under the overall supervision of the Director of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy Supervisors, the Occupational Therapy Aide assists the Occupational Therapist with patient treatments, transport, set-up, clean-up and clerical duties.

     Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients served. The Occupational Therapy Aide maintains an awareness of general health and safety precautions of patients and alerts necessary personnel of problems observed.

    EDUCATION:

     High school diploma or equivalent experience preferred.

     WORK EXPERIENCE:

    One (1) year in a medical setting preferred.

     SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

     Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with staff and clients.

    Previous exposure to health care, rehabilitation, and persons with disabilities preferred.

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:

    Assist with patient care responsibilities such as exercise programs, functional activities, group activities and modalities.  Obtains a transport sheet from the Scheduling Clerk each morning. Insures all assigned patients meet their scheduled commitments. Assists in transferring of patients and positioning of patients in bed or wheelchair. Transports patients to areas other than therapies i.e., x-ray, as assigned. Assists with transport of patients to and from Dining Room.  Performs general clean-up and departmental maintenance such as disinfecting the exercise mats; preparation and clean up of department and preparing ADL apartment. Performs infection control procedures i.e., cleaning of paraffin and hot pack unit according to department policy. 

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Produce a full proficient level of message equivalency when interpreting in setting such as tactile, close vision, bilingual language (Written English and American Sign Language) and have the ability to translate from English textual to ASL conceptual language. 
    • Ability to do team interpreting effectively and match interpreters with a variety of communication styles and vice versa for the students preferred communication style. 
    • Prepare for each assignment as outlined in the interpreter handbook or as directed by the coordinator.
    • Assess logistical arrangement/setting.
    • Demonstrate ability to convert bilingual language (English and ASL) effectively

    PREFERRED SKILLS

    • Ability to do team interpreting effectively and match interpreters with a variety of communication styles and vice versa for the students preferred communication style. 
    • Demonstrate ability to convert bilingual language (English and ASL) effectively. 
    • Registry Interpreter for the Deaf (RID) (NIC)/Board of Evaluation Interpreter (BEI) BEI Advanced or higher. and/or other state certification KQAS 4 or higher
