    SALARY:                             $112,000-$145,000; generous benefit package

    WORK HOURS:                 Monday-Friday days; some evenings and weekends required

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:  Some local travel; occasional interstate travel

    ABOUT THIS POSITION

    Wallace is a non-profit community health center in East Multnomah County that is “health home base” for individuals and families who face barriers to care. We believe that good health for each of us, benefits all of us.  We are seeking a dynamic, full time CFO.  Portland is an amazing city offering beautiful summers with mild winters.  We are one of the most bicycle and dog friendly cities in the country. Our clinic is located in the heart of the culturally diverse, dynamic community of Rockwood, which is conveniently located next to Portland’s light rail system.  

    The successful candidate should have non-profit experience and a four-year degree in accounting. A Masters or CPA is preferred.  Candidate must have a strong financial statement background, ideally within the health care field. Additional requirements include excellent written and verbal communication skills, extensive knowledge of Excel, ability to multitask, hands-on experience with accounting software and month end closing routines.  The ideal candidate will also possess strong leadership and communication skills.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Works closely with CEO to provide status of financial condition of The Wallace Medical Concern by collecting, interpreting, and reporting key financial data
    • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing financial policies and procedures
    • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
    • Maximizes return and limits risk on cash
    • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside financial advisors, and filing financial reports
    • Advises management of actions and potential risks
    • Arranges for audits as required and appropriate
    • Manages budget and controls expenses effectively
    • Manages revenue cycle and collection
    • Recruits, develops, and appraises staff effectively.  Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy
    • Stays current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance
    • Supervises Senior Accountant, Billing Department, Payroll and Accounts Payable Specialist, and Human Resources Manager

    LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY

    • Recruit, hire, orient, train, assign work, and supervise employees and coordinate supervision or support of non-supervisory clinic support personnel

    • Evaluate performance and recommend merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary action

    • Develop and update position descriptions, as necessary, to ensure they reflect actual job responsibilities

    • Ensure staff achieves the most current level of technical understanding and follow defined protocols established by third party systems functioning with medical operations (e.g. software)

    • Recognize and utilize opportunities for staff development

    • Demonstrate responsiveness to staff concerns and strive to keep lines of communication open

    • Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills, including mediation, facilitation, and the ability to explain complex concepts and instructions to a variety of audiences

    • Coach and direct staff when handling sensitive situations

    • Foster well developed teams with clear roles, standardized work processes, and key performance metrics they are held accountable for

    EXECUTIVE TEAM MEMBER

    • Participate with Senior Leadership in the development, oversight and implementation of Wallace’s strategic plan

    • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork to maintain effective working relationships with Wallace’s staff and its Board, local/state/federal agencies, grant fund representatives, vendors, other local providers, clients and the public

    • Astute at analyzing and solving problems using critical thinking and can demonstrate the ability to build consensus

    • Resourceful and able to seek and accept new practices/methods and support staff through transitions

    • Maintain the necessary confidentiality over sensitive and confidential matters

    • Serve as an exemplary role model and project a positive image of The Wallace Medical Concern

    • Comply with all applicable laws and fully cooperate with the Wallace compliance program

    • Maintain positive working relationships with all staff

    • Represent WALLACE on appropriate community based committees

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, required
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in an accounting/finance management role, required
    • Previous experience working at a FQHC or non-profit, preferred
    • Prior auditing and payroll management experience; CPA or MBA preferred
    • Experience in Human Resources is a plus

     

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software experience required; Sage Intacct experience a plus
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills
    • Strong financial management skills, with experience in budgeting, planning, and forecasting
    • Quality control – demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality
    • Ability to interact with staff, patients, and community members in a warm and confident manner
    • Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential
    • Must possess strict integrity in the handling and maintenance of confidential information using sound judgement in communications containing confidential information
