    The deputy managing editor of The Western Journal is responsible for ensuring that editing operations run smoothly and that all content published meets the highest levels of excellence in accordance with our Ethics and Editorial Standards.

    We are looking for a highly motivated individual with very strong attention to detail, a passion for the truth and a meticulous approach to work. We want people who are passionate about what we stand for -- the importance of journalism to civil society and upholding the traditional values of Western Civilization.     This is a Monday through Friday position, but some weekends will be required, as are occasional later evenings for coverage of special events. Examples could be the president's annual State of the Union address, news conferences, election coverage, etc.

    This position reports directly to the editor-in-chief.

    Responsibilities:

    • Hires, trains, leads and manages a team of on-site and remote story editors and writers
    • Evaluates all copy for compliance with policies, style and voice
    • Edits and sometimes rewrites the written work of staff and contract writers
    • Participate in brainstorming and other collaborative meetings
    • Coordinates with assignment editors on headlines and story pitches
    • Writes original content for publication
    • Monitors other publications and the news cycle in general from multiple perspectives
    • Fact checks ages, dates, historical events, locations, names of businesses and groups, numbers, personal quotes and attribution, titles and all other factual claims
    • Reviews statistics, including charts and graphs, used in articles
    • Fills in for editor-in-chief as needed
    • Assists in maintaining editorial calendar
    • Champions The Western Journal's Ethics and Editorial Standards to all staff
    • Work with editor-in-chief to issue corrections and clarifications as necessary
    • Represents The Western Journal professionally in all instances, including in audio and video interviews as required
    • Resolves issues as they arise
    • Other duties as assigned by the editor-in-chief

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    • A bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field
    • Five to 10 years of editing experience, with at least two in a supervisory role
    • Very strong written English skills, including good spelling and grammar
    • Good investigative and critical thinking skills
    • Disciplined ability to work to deadlines and strong work ethic
    • A meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail
    • The ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
    • Strong communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate
    • The ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
    • Familiarity with online content management tools (experience working in WordPress or directly with basic HTML a plus)
    • Familiarity with The Associated Press Stylebook
    • Ability to work some weekends and evenings as necessary
    • Understanding of the values and the mission of Liftable Media, Inc. and willing to promote and uphold these both at work and with potential partners, readers, and subscribers
